Power Steering Pump Noise

I have about 950 miles on my 05 MZ3. At around 500 miles, I started hearing a faint whine... it sounds just like ignition noise coming through on the radio, only it doesn't speed up and slow down with the engine. After some investigation, I found that it is the electric power steering pump making the noise. It is not bad, or annoying... but *I* know it is there... sitting at a stop light with the radio off, it bugs me because I am afraid there is something wrong with it... The last thing I want is some mechanic tearing into my new car already.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks

well...I hear ya!

looks like it is part of the electric asisted power steering as you mentioned. If you look closely, let say at a stop light, when you turn the wheel, the intensity of the headlights dim slightly, perhaps it is all part of the voltage consumption.

I'm having a leak of PS fluid somewhere in that area of the right-side motor mount and maybe it has something to do with a PS line.

I asked this same thing over a while ago here in this thread and the pros (not me) told me that this was normal.

Hope this helps.

Take Care,
