Please help me with my hail damaged PR5

Hi everyone, I'm new here...just bought a hail damaged Protege5 off of Ebay, I wouldn't have but he sold it to me for $7500 (i would have liked $7000 but he was pretty firm)...12k miles, yellow, sunroof and 6 cd changer! Check it out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4550929348&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:US:6

Anyway, can somone point me in the right direction? I know that the body damage can be fixed at a PDR place, which will be about $3-5k, and then I have to get a new hood, passenger side tailight cover, and the black stuff that goes around the window on the passenger side. All of a sudden it's not looking too good, but we'll see.

Anyway, the PDR stuff will have to wait until this winter when I have more money, but for now I'd like to pick up the rest of the parts. I need that black trim that goes under the passenger window, a tailight for the passenger side, and a hood...on the hood, it would be nice if I could find a salvaged hood, but yellow seems to be a rare color. I'd like an OEM one and just paint it later, but I don't know. Any advice?

um, it has a salvaged title. were you planning on driving it? it looks pretty messed up from the pics

yes, i was planning on driving it...the salvaged title was only because of the hail, i think it might be worth it if i can get the parts cheap. think its a bad idea?

hmm they said everything else looked ok? Looks like it's missing a lug in each of the front wheels.... and it's missing the flyin' m on the grille... Also wtf is that carpet thing all over the dash? That wasn't even an option if I remember right...

It says it sold for 8900?

It's difficult to see the extent of hail damage in the pictures because they're so small.

Can someone fill me in what's the deal when a car has a salvage title?

well he was driving down this weekend so he said $7.5 and i could have it. Missing lugs? I'll check on that, he was a nice guy and said yeah take it to hte Mazda dealership and have it checked out, if you don't like it I'll give you your deposit and drive it back home... BTW, what would you call that black lining underneath the windows? You can see that it is cracked in the photos.

btw, how much would a new grill run me? this one is cracked from the hail apparently, i'll see it tomorrow...basically going to try and piece everything together and after PDR hopefully keep it close to $11,000 to feel good about myself.

It was also listed as a manual trans. It's an automatic. Probably the lock lugnut missing on each wheel.

For less than the price to buy it and fix it, you could have gotten one that was in perfect condition.

I'd get an aftermarket hood or a used one, it's not worth fixing it. For the tail light again, used. Look around the marketplace here you might be able to pick up most of the parts.

Previously titled where?? Wasn't the owner a member here? I've got to do some checking now. I rember he had just gotten the RB cat-back, before the damage.

I was gonna point you to the WTB section, but you are already there. Between the forums and ebay, you should be set.

Check out www.mazdarecycling.com. They part out wrecked Mazdas all the time. Nice RX-8 on the homepage right now that looks like it ate a wall.

Reminds me of a P5 from a university in Kansas (I think) that was totalled last year. Yellow one too. It was like 200 times worse than your P5. PDR will be expensive. My uncle's Subaru got 11 grand in damage. It was new, so he got a check. Fixed all the mics bulls***, now drives around a 2002 dented ass subaru. lol

eek, i think i'm gonna cancel this, looks like his car had water damage...although, is this the same car? i'm gonna try and contact him about it, trying to find out where this car has been registered first...

we'll see, in the meantime i'm going to hold off the deal until next week.

Dude, CARFAX that car. I was looking at his pics of the rear taillight on AceP5's, and the one on ebay. Looks very familiar. Seems the guy may have bought that P5, did some work to it, then posted iton ebay. Look at the rear hatch. It is fubar in AceP5's cardomain page http://www.cardomain.com/id/ace_of_spades

But on ebay, looks straight. Might not be the same car, but then again. hail damage to a roof that bad, it is obvious a glass moonroof will not survive. Hail is made of water, so it is a given that there was water damage even if it was not Ace's.

You might be better off just spending the $, and getting a good used on, instead of a jacked up one.

like a sore thumb...yeah.

Looks like a wrecked ass car with photos taken at certain angles as to not show the extent of the damage.

er, sadly i can't drive a stick...plus im not keen on paying for a car shipment

he was pretty ok with it, said that he's been driving it and its fine, but he understands...my dad's pushing me to look at the chevy cobalts, which are on sale right now but of course...its the base model

man wish those mazda3's would go on sale, but i think their sales are pretty strong so there's no need to. just sucks, i drove a mazda3 hatch and it was pretty sweet.

is there anyway i can justify buying this protege5 still? i mean, he said he could have the dents taken off and a new hood put on and i'd still only sit at about $8800, probably more like $8500 because he said he'd take off some from the original price of the car. would you buy this car for $8500 with no dents and a new hood? it keeps looking better and better (keeping in mind there's nothing wrong with the car functionally, ill take it into mazda to be sure)
