alpine d300 with the alpine nav... those are like in 2 different classes, in a sense. so, i my eye, you can't really compare them like this... but that's just me.

just go the avic-n1....if you have that kind of dough i guess spend near $3000 for the alpine and navi. But i got the whole package for just under $1500...and no problems. The nav is one of the best i've used.

this is why i don't see them as compare-able. the d9 with the nav is like more than 3k while the n1 is 2.2k retail. that's an $800 difference, a pair of some VERY nice focal speakers. now, the d3 runs about 1.4k and the alpine nav, about .8-1k. that's not even the main factor in my reasoning. the d9 is market-ed as a mobile entertainment unit. the n1, is marketed as a nav and utility system. since i work at ccity, i have a good opportunity to get both alpine and pioneer pretty cheap. for now, the alpine d3 and nav is winning for me.

The AVIC N1.MMMMM... if you have that much cash laying around you could just give it to me, and all ride along with you, and you can ask me for directions, and all have a map too. All bring my ukalaylei too for music purposes, but i can only play hotel california

The thing is, this is like the only Nav unit with touch screen capabilities. The add ons you have to use a remote.

I have a freind with the AVIC-N1, its a bad ass head unit. I would go with that one. It has a little cluster of auxilary guages that can be interfaced with your cars electronics. My friend has the accelerometer and the lateral accelerometer. and speedometer, since hers doesnt work anymore due to a boched guage face job. But also has a built in voltmeter and tach that can be interfaced with your car. I would get one if I could afford it.

Well, GPS isn't really that big of a deal to me. So I guess the question is... what would you guys rather have? An AVIC with GPS or a D900 without GPS.. if GPS wasn't the deciding factor.

point #1: the avic's cost is 2k actually, and the d9's cost is currently a lot lower than before as it is last year's model. This one is on sale at crutchfield for 1600$.

point #2: you have to take into consideration the vid quality...in my opinion, the Alpine has better vid quality.

point #3: On top of all of that, consider this: You can always buy a Garmin or other unit to add to your car...but you'll always only have 1V preouts with the AVIC...so if the rest of the stuff in your car is amped, you'll need to turn the gains up more...lowering your overall SQ capabilities.

point #4: Both companies make less expensive models, must make sure to compare them for features and visual quality.

Well actually, crutchfield has those specs wrong. The preouts are 2 volts....check www.avic-n1.com. So, the comparision between 2 and 4 volt (thats what the alpine has right?) is quite minimal. I'm no audio enthusiast but i haven't noticed a difference coming from my 4 volt headunit to the pioneer. But if you don't want GPS, i think its pretty silly to get teh avic-n1. Thats one of the best features. Go for the better video quality and bigger screen of the alpine..it just makes more sense. But honestly, you don't realize how useful navigation is until you own it. haha...good luck with your decision tho.

I love all the functions and gadgets of the Pioneer, but I hate the looks and the 6.5" screen....I would love for it to have the 7" screen. Still even though I'am an Alpine fan, I would take the AVIC.

I have to sell my AVIC-N1, just installed 2 weeks ago and MUST SELL!
