*pics inside* idea for amp and re-q/cleansweep/whatever install

i've had this install done for months, i know, old news, but i needed to dig back into it to replace a set of RCAs, soOo i took the opportunity to take some pics to give you guys some ideas for hiding your stuff. i want to add one more amp, specifically a PDX 1.1000 OR 1.600, but i have to figure out where to put it. i think i'll end up putting it on the back of the box, since if the box is out of my hatch for whatever reason, the amp doesn't need to be there, right!? i wish i could keep it hidden like the 4.150, but honestly my box is so big noone would be able to see it mounted on the back of the box.

Props on a clean install! I've been debating on what kind of sub install i'd like to do, if I ever ended up installing a sub. Problem is, I hate how past installs have sounded with Line-out-converters, and i'm not replacing my stock Bose setup, so I guess i'll just have to appreciate what I have.

thanks.

i'm not familiar with modern LOCs. the last LOC i used was in the early to mid 90's, though i'd imagine they would have made it possible to get good sound at this point you'd think! are you sure it wasn't a gain setting issue or something? i just dunno what's out there

i can tell you that the re-q DEFINATELY offers pristine sound quality. no noise, very easy to use. in fact, i have the factory gain settings on the re-q, which is middle of the road gain, and then tuned using solely the PDX gains and it's been great. i mean really impressive. I just want to see what will happen with a serious, dedicated amp pushing the sub.

If i was a person who really had to conserve space, i'd DEF go with an 8" woofer with a similar power setup compared to what i have. the prob is the vented box would probably end up being 1.5 cubes or something to REALLY maximine the woofer, but you could make it SO awesomely thin and light, that it could look integral to the hatch yet offer most of the room stock.

Are you using a cleansweep with your install? How's your experience with it? My understanding is the cleansweep allows for digital inputs as well as taking analog OEM inputs with cleaner digital signals.

LOC's work fine, but they tend to allow more to the sub than i'd prefer. For example, the bass from a radio host's voice reverbrates through the sub. Whereas, an aftermarket HU would allow the exact low signals to go to the sub instead of every single low frequency to the sub. Tends to be overbearing. I've adjusted it all I can (in previous cars) and it always left something to be desired.

nah i'm using the re-q. i got it on the recommendation of an ex-member here, fourthmeal, and it worked great so kept it.

speaking of the cleansweep, there are two entries in the instructions for the cleansweep that are entertaining. one warns about mounting the clean sweep on the roof. yes, outside, on the roof, because it will be exposed to the elements and will damage the unit. no s***!

the second was the mention that during the calibration process, the lights will flash in various colors....TO ENTERTAIN YOU hahahaha

WTF..

I like the idea of the cleansweep. But my job doesn't carry any JL products, and I don't spend full price on anything I don't absolutely need.
