PIAA bulbs and too much heat

Is there any significant danger in replacing my stock bulbs (MP5) with PIAA Xtreme Whites? I heard somewhere that replacing the stock bulbs with all these "new-fangled" 55watt consumption with 100watt output super bulbs may overheat the headlight, melt something, cost me a lot to fix, etc, etc.

It seems to me that most people haven't had any problems, but before I plop down any cash, I'd like to get some more info, you know?

Thanks guys

Buy HID's don't waste your money on these bulbs. They burn out extremely fast even when installed by a professional (if there is such a thing). I had three sets before I gave up on these. My brother melted his Celica headlight sockets with a set of 100W bulbs. I have never heard of it happening to a Protege of any sort though. I recommend a set of Phillips SilverStars or check out www.powerbulbs.com they sell some good euro bulds not sold in the US and are much brighter than normal. They are a extremely reliable source and have free shipping with speedy delivery. Still I have found that really bulbs are a waste of time. Just change to HID you will spend extra money intially but HID bulbs can last longer than the car and are much brighter. Just my .02

By the way welcome to the forum and if you need a few more opinions perhaps a search could yield even more info for you.

Again welcome

i agree with the HID thing, but also i have used PIAA bulbs for quite some time and havent had any probs and they r still burning strong. but for me its time for HID.

i spose it is a case of some people have good experiences, some have bad ones...but yeah, i'm very happy with piaa

If you do a lot of driving at night, bulbs like PIAA and most aftermarket bulbs do not last. Not to mention, the light output is deceiving. You actually lose visibility with these bulbs. IMHO they are a waste of money unless you are just going for looks. One of the only aftermarket bulbs that are actually half decent are the Sylvania SuperStars as mentioned above. Otherwise a real HID conversion is the way to go. I've got better things to spend $50+ on then a set of light bulbs that barely last a year if you are lucky.

as long as your bulbs are installed properly, (nothing touches the glass) they should last as long as oe

Not likely because most bulbs have a disclaimer on the package stating they will not last as long as an OEM bulb. I mean, some people are lucky and never have problems, but most people I know have always had issues with these aftermarket bulbs. I couldn't count the number of times I see a ricer with one headlight buzzing down the roads.

Stoopid me

I remember touching the glass when installing mine. Thats probobly why mine didnt last that long. The HID sounds good but
im really tight on my budget right now.....(doh)

Which PIAA would you guys recommend for me to buy?

Do you guys think with the headlights being ON while I'm driving
could be the cause too? I seen a thread here about turning
the headlights off on day time. I was thinking of making a
separate switch for the headlight so I can turn them off on
day time.

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks:)

The yellow PIAA lights are pimp for fogs, if you already have 10,000k hids for low beams and superstars for highs :)

Frogman what happened to your car! Did you try to race it after playing Midnight Club 2 and crash? Sorry to hear about that, althought I think it happened a while ago.

I use rubber gloves when installing all of my headlight bulbs and the damn things still lasted no more than 8 months total a set.:D
