is that a ding to the left above the drivers door handle? i hope its a shadow! love the color and the wheels!

And What kind of paint did you use?

Usually you have 24 hours to get it in clear otherwise you have to re-shoot your color.

Yea, that is a ding, i know it sucks! ill get it fixed soon... thanks for that forcfed, i didnt know i had to wait, good thing i had to lend my mom money instead of buying the clear yet! anyways, here are some better pics...

i dont think u understood what forcefed was saying, he said if u dont clear it in a day u have to respray the color on the car

at least i dont think u understood, looks nice though, any metallic flake or pearl? looks kinda plain

Congrats on getting your Ride Painted!!!
Its nice to see it coming together.
Get that clear coat on and get that thing shining like new.
I think a carbon fiber hood would look good against the black.
Looking forward to checking it out in person soon.

neat man. i wanna paint my civic flat black(the right way.)..but.. idk if i can do it.. what paint did you use? and how long did it take to get it ready?

I wouldn't exactly consider that "did it up right".

Did you paint the sills and engine bay too?

by "did it up right" i mean, i did as good of a job as i can being a 17 year old kid that cant afford to get it painted by someone else. i didnt paint the sills, or engine bay yet, i will eventually though. i used the paint that you get at autozone, it seemed to work nicely. it took from 9pm to 5am to sand and primer everything, i tried to be as nit picky as possible. shooting the paint didnt take long, maybe an hour or two, than let it dry a day, than another coat.

oh s***, didnt know that. well, i was going to put another coat on anyways, so its not that big of a deal i guess. and i kinda want it plain black, i almost like it with no clearcoat

ill be honest. the paint looks extremely oxidized. As if your car had sever clearcoat failure and the paint went to hell.

If your going for a satin finish, i can see that the paint (from the pics youve put up) that the paint has just enough gloss to take away from that satin look.

Not to mention w/o a clearcoat the paint will eventually oxidize and look terrible. Paint will start coming off when you wash and dry your car. as well as when you wax it.

I'd say A for effort but poor paint choice. Next time go to a paint & body supply store and get a better grade of paint. And if you decide to clear it ,do it as your final coat. But you don't have to clear it if you use good paint and apply it right.

As an example, this 46 Stude was also shot in a garage shingle stage w/o clear over ten years ago. The owner rubs all of that bulls*** stuff on it in preparation for his car shows. Its neither oxidized nor losing paint after countless rubings and washings.

But..that is a Single Stage paint....Desinged to not be cleared.

Basecoat/Clearcoat is designed for a BAse coat to be applied as tha color....a coating which is usually not catalyzed, and then for a protective clear to be applied over the Base that is Catalyzed and will for a hard protective coating for the color.

B/C and single stage are two totally different thisngs.

And to the OP....I cannot believe you used that Crap paint from Duplicor that i sold at Autozne....you might as well have just rattle canned the car.
Not to mention..you are not doing the jambs, and IMHO...If you dont take the car aparts....a bit more than you did..you are gonna end up with a poor result.

I would like to see the overspary you got into your jambs...because I highly doubt you taped them up.

I also Checked into it...you do not have a recot window with that paint...But it does not say that there is a maximun :Time to clear " in the info I read.
You might want to check the can for maximum "Time to CLear"...and if you dont find it..call there support line and ask before you dcide to go further..or it may come back to haunt you.

And if you want the FLat looking color..I suggest going with a Flat or Matte Clear...yes they make those.

Keep in mind that this is a 17 y/o with no experience. No painter that I know was producing show quality work on their first attempt. But that said I still give him credit for trying and with more practice and better paint he will get better.

Off topic but that 46 stude was shot with enamel, which most certainly could have been cleared but it did not need it. Its a single stage shot with no clear.
