Paint, underside & interior protection required??

Did anyone get paint protection, undercoating, rustproofing, interior fabric protection on their new cars? I heard conflicting stories that it is not required on new cars coming to NA because the manufacturer has it in their paint on cars coming to our climate. And others saying it is essential.

My first car didn't have it done. Didn't rust, but the paint finish kind of dulled after a few years. (eek2)

good question. I am about to put my MS3 on a boat to Hawaii and am very frightened about the rust from the salt water on the 7 day trip there. I guess the frame is covered for rust under warranty but its a hassle id rather not deal with

I have the rust proofing done on my ride(Enviromental Package $1k). I have been turning wrenches on Mercedes Benz for 5 years and really dont think that it is really necessary to have it. The cars now a days are built pretty well and are protected from rusting. I wouldnt worry about Jason. I think she will be fine. But like anything else that has made a long journey I would give it a good wash when it gets to the destination.

Hey jason, just save money for new rotors. When i shipped my VW to Korea, first thing that annoyed me was the brakes, They were never the same once the car was in Korea. the brakes will pit and rust badly depending on the boat ride (mine was 50+ days) .
Otherwise had no other rusting issues.

At the time (11/06) my dealer was only selling MS3's with a $2k upcharge for that protection and Lojac. It comes with a lifetime warranty and recoat at anytime. In retrospec I imagine that is where their profit comes from.... not as a climatic requirement.

I had Sound/Rust Proofing done. Cost me $450 CDN at the time of vehicle purchase. Its lifetime and gets re-applied/spot fixed annually.

I think its essential in cold climates, as we get a lot of snow here. I drive through snow and salt 4 month out of the year. We'll see how it holds up in the next few years.
