2002 Yellow Protg 5
Thinkin about repainting the same HZ yellow, but I've never painted a car before. I am and have been a woodfinisher for four years now and consider myself pretty avid with it..... Any thoughts?

Take it to a professional.
It's all about prep, tools and experience.
You'd need a spray booth and somewhere to bake clear coat on if you want it to look decent I think.

On the other hand, google DIY auto painting and see what turns up!

Yeah I spray wood in a car painting booth, ironically. The kind you see on the boyd coddington(sp?) shows, sucks for woodfinishing though, although I can get the temp up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. I've just never played with car paints before. I went to the local collision shop today that oddly enough went in on a new booth with our company to get a package deal; hence the car booth. They told me they'd be happy to do all my bodywork and prime those spots for me so all I'd have to do is sand, prime and sand and sand and sand and sand and paint and sand and sand and sand and paint and thats it! Not much to it apparently :)

the HZ yellow on the P5 is a single stage paint..clear is mixed in already. i repainted my front bumper and side skirts in my garage.. i comes down to prep work and making sure to wetsand with 2000 grit last... then cheese cloth good. depending how many coats u apply if u have any runs u can wetsand them out (after paint has cured) and polish up...good luck.. i think i even have a 1/2 a quart left over..oh make sure to wet down the floor before painting to keep the dust down..my 2 cents...

the more the merrier...as many as you would like becuz it realy depends on ur up keep and if u used harsh cleaner waxes and a buffer, when u was and claen ur car becuz that will slowly take off paint in time then if u have to wetsand spots that takes some also..just apply more coats on the bends. i would cut in harder spots then one light coat let it tack up then two good wet coats...or if u have access to a paint booth with heat lamps bake between a few coats wetsand and repaint..just to keep the orange peel affect down ...and if u have any ..any imprefections in the base coat it just gets magnified in the final stage...CLEANLINESS AND PREP IS GOLDEN..oh just becuz the factory HZ yellow and REd are single stage doesn't mean u have to buy it ,but if u buy a dual stage, clear is a whole different ball game. it can be ur best friend or worst enemy..

Any advice for re-painting a Pure White, color code A3D?
Is that a 2 stage then? Clear is separate?
