Our Home Theatre Setup

We are moving into our new house this weekend and to go along with the fun we have our new home theatre to setup. Plus, my husband gets to go out and buy some new toys to go along with it ...

The centerpiece is our new 1080p Sony SXRD 60" HD WS rear projector

There will be HD cable coming into the house with a Tivo box for recording (cant wait till their HD box comes out this year)

He will also be picking up a nice Denon DVD1920 upconverting/HDMI output Progressive Scan player to make use of the 1080i resolution this TV is capable of. With over 600 DVDs in the collection, we need something to do them justice!

(Although it would be nice to be able to afford their $3k reference unit - only in my dreams)

Naturally there will be a video switcher connected to one set of inputs with the VCR, PS2, and Dreamcast connected to it

The XBOX will also be connected through a HD adapter - dont have a 360 yet, nor am I in a rush to get one.

When the PS3 finally comes out that will get hooked up too via HDMI so we can finally run the display at 1080p with the BluRay player - not going to spend the money now for the Toshiba HD DVD player since I have a feeling that BR will be the format of choice in the end.

Then we just have to worry about the surround sound :)

Id love to drop 2g's for the Denon receiver with HDMI inputs, but thats a bit out of my price range for now so I think we will end up with a moderately priced HTIB (Home Theatre In a Box) - most likely the 1000 watt Pioneer thats out right now which has decent speakers and sub.

That way when we can spend the extra cash we can just swap that receiver out for the Denon :)

Its great to be able to have that movie theatre experience in the comforts of your own home -- just sucks having to spend $100 on a 3ft cable!

Any other suggestions on what to get, how to hook this all up?

Great set-up on the video, I won't comment on the audio as I'm a audio-snob:rolleyes: , it can be improved over time though and I like that. Only one correction, you will not be able to input 1080p from a blu-ray player, you'll need to input 720p or 1080i as the Sony does not accept 1080p inputs. Don't worry I think only H-Ps TVs do on the HDMI input and they don't look nearly as good as the Sony does. And even with 1080p signal down converted to 1080i looks great on the Sony, we've tested it at work via the Firewire input.

Yea good audio is CRAZY expensive. Like stated, the reciever will go later to be replaced by the Denon -- and then the speakers soon after.

"Officially" the SXRD doesnt accept 1080p -- however Ive heard that there is a way to do it ;)

Nice set up, but idunno, you have that nice ass tv but you go with a HTIB? I would suggest some stand alone speakers, but thats just my opinion. it doesnt count.

i'd say shy away from the HTIB, you can get a denon receiver and maybe some definitive technology speakers, pretty much building a system for at least 1.5k and then you can def. upgrade the receiver later on and use the first one you bought as a second zone. most of your denon receivers will have the ability for multizone. so how does home theater and outdoor bbq speakers sound.

Nope the plan was to go HTIB for now (something is better than nothing) since the Denon receiver he wants is crazy expensive .... save up a bit, replace the receiver ... then the speakers ... and once its all replaced with the right stuff, move it (HTIB) to the master bedroom

Nice gear you're spec'ing, but I'll never understand for the life of me having a TV in a bedroom....you should be...uh...entertaining each other (humpleg)

looking nice.....sony makes great HDTV's......

pics of your set-up would be nice.

Good luck with the move (We just moved into our new house 2 days after Christmas....fun fun with 2 kids and a cat and a dog)...back on topic....your setup looks great. (2thumbs) Love the TV.

I haven't done research on the Pioneer HTIB system, but you may want to check this one out....trying to convince the wife right now that surrond sound is good (poke) ....if successful I would buy this one (especially for that price).

Yea we looked into that one already but to spend that much on a system that will ultimately end up in the bedroom is pointless ... If it were to remain the main system, yes its GREAT (although I am still looking for an HDMI receiver which the new Denon will take care of)

Wow, the SXRD is one badass TV. I just picked a 50a10 Sony and it is nice. I wanted the SXRD but I really want to wait until we sell this house and start in on our third one. Hopefully I can get a BIGASS O.L.E.D if they are out by then.
We bought almost the same Pioneer HTIB but ours has wireless surround speakers and so far it has performed well.
I will buy something more expensive when this house is sold and pay cash for it. We should come out with 87,000$ tax free once all the commission and other BS is done with. Then I can put 40g's in investments the rest goes in the bank to build the casa and buy toys :) I may acutally build a small stadium type theater room upstairs next time.
Congrats on your home and your AWESOME T.V.
