Only inside pads on front gone at 20K miles

I was doing an oil change yesterday and noticed that the insides of the front rotors were showing some grooves. Upon inspection the inside pads on both front brakes were down to the backing plates while the outside pads were only 25% worn. The calipers slide freely and the pistons retract just fine.

Has anyone else experienced this type of wear?

Not to be rude but I would like to save a lot of extra posts by saying that I am a brake system engineer so I fully understand all of the variables that go into abnormal wear.

I am just trying to find out if this is something others are experiencing.

However, if this is a common problem and anyone has any questions on what *usually* causes this type of thing I am happy to discuss. I just wanted to avoid the usual, lengthy "your brakes stop the car by sqeezing this thing called a rotor..." response ;)

Thanks,
Alex

I had my pads burn really quickly. Down to 20% @ 35,000 miles. I do drive aggressively but everyone said that it was unusual for them to wear that quickly.. I just used it as an excuse to get hawks cause the stock pads suck in my opinion.

I had the same problem but with the rear pads. There's 38k miles on my P5 and i noticed a noise on the rear drivers side, i checked the disc and the outside is fine but the inside was already out, but the weird thing is the rear passenger is not that bad and the front is not bad neither. This is really weird. Any suggestions?? I will go talk to the service manager on Wednesday when i get my oil change.

Another possibility though is the caliper design. I have heard that slide piston calipers...,which i think the p5 has, can wear unevenly. Either way i think the p5 brake setup is decent with the abs....but a stoptech or brembo kit would be amazing.
Peace

all brake pads on the piston side of the caliper will wear faster , i belive the only time i ever saw even wear on disc brake pads is on four and six piston applications where brake preasure is evenly distributed on both sides.
