Renault has revealed this dramatic gullwing coupe ahead of its 2010 Paris motor show debut.
While some are getting excited about a potential rebirth of the Alpine brand, this is no modern-day A610 instead, the DeZir concept previews the future design direction of more mainstream Renaults.
And in our eyes thats pretty excellent news. While a return of the rear-drive Renault coupe would be a welcome one, sharper, more aggressive looking hot Clios and Meganes wouldnt go amiss, either. Those doors will no doubt stay on the DeZir, though
Its mid-engined, so to speak, an electric motor boasting 148bhp and 167lb ft sat between driver and rear axle. Modest outputs, perhaps, but a tubular steel frame and Kevlar bodywork ensures an 830kg kerbweight, leading to a sub-supercar 0-62mph sprint of five seconds. The batteries provide a range of 100 miles.
Its rear-wheel drive and boasts a similar suspension set-up to the Megane Trophy racing car, so handling should be more than competent, while a low drag coefficient of 0.25Cd should make the DeZir prettyagile, too, as well as boosting both performance and economy.
The all-new Mercedes-Benz coupe saloon is here, as the 2nd-gen CLS is revealed. Details and pictures.
Mercedes-Benz has revealed its all-new CLS. Its the second generation of the Three-Pointed Stars four-door coupe and (compared to the stereotypically mild overhaul of some premium German cars) it boasts a refreshingly new look.
It will debut at the 2010 Paris motor show, seven years after the CLS first graced the Mercedes range, but it enters a far more hostile market than the one it effectively invented in 2003. The CLS carved its own niche but its creation has since inspired the Volkswagen Passat CC, Audi A7 Sportback and BMW 5-series GT, while more practical saloons such as the Jaguar XF have aped its more sweeping, coupe-like window line.
Mercedes has yet to reveal firm technical details, but expect a mixture of six- and eight-cylinder engines (with diesel to outsell petrol) and a range topped by a hot AMG version, boasting the tuning arms new 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8. Its still likely to be badged the CLS63 AMG, though.
The design retains its predecessors proportions yet manages to look strikingly different to before, a sharper, more chiseled appearance reminiscent of the Mercedes SLS AMG supercar and one which is set to influence a lot of future Mercs.
