Now with the CX-70 "revealed", what is everyone buying?

CPO lease return? At 15k km, it's still a baby haha. Hope it gives you many years of trouble-free ownership, youri.

Correct. It was a 4 year lease that BMW called the client after 2 year to offer them a newer lease. I will probably put another 15,000km in the first six months. First time delving in the luxury brand cost, so will see if I fall in love with it or learn from my mistakes ;) Time will tell. I will thoroughly enjoy it for now.

One thing that is standing out to me is how well my CX-9 is faring compared to it. The quality of the CX-9 interior is really not that far off in my opinion. The BMW is better but there are still some quirks where I think the CX-9 has it done better. I prefer the button and layout of the rotary dial in the Mazda for example. (Although the BMW touchscreen is way better than the Mazda).

As far as the CX-70/90 interior, it looks like it is even better, but with the caveat of the interior storage, which everyone seems to say is worst than the CX-9.

I wasn't a fan of the X3's interior but it is more than made up for in terms of performance (best 4 cylinder I've ever owned)! If I'm being honest, the Acura TLX I gave up had a nicer interior, more comfortable seat, and less hard plastic. There's no perfect car so you just have to figure out what's MORE important, LOL!

The wireless CP is also a first for me. Is it yours too or have you had it before?

Congrats!

I miss the dial controller of my previous Mazda. It really is the best way to get around in the system while driving, in my opinion.

I agree, the interior does look pretty nice, but seems to be lacking in usable storage space. I was at a dealer on Wednesday, getting a repair estimate for an insurance claim. Decided to check out a CX-70 PHEV GT while waiting, and took a few pics.

Appears to be smaller door pockets, smaller console cubby, and even smaller glovebox. And only one behind-the-seat pocket compared to my CX-9's 2 pockets. The armrest also appeared to only have about as much space as the CX-9's upper storage area. I didn't try to see if I could remove the top tray, but it didn't appear to be much bigger than the CX-9's.

I did like that you can recline the 2nd row pretty far. I'm not even sure if I can recline the 2nd row in my CX-9, I've never tried lol.

Storage under the cargo floor is smaller. Because this is the PHEV, it has a molded plastic tray for the emergency equipment and the charger. Not sure if this is similar to the MHEV. Looks nicely organized but leaves very little room for other stuff.

I'd prefer a carpeted flat tray instead, with the emergency tools in a bag stowed beside the spare tire, like the CX-9. Here's what I have in my underfloor tray. Knockoff M18 battery, tire plug kit, LED emergency flares, spare water bottle, 12v tire inflator, battery booster pack, socket set, breaker bar, first aid stuff, fire extinguisher, extra diapers and wipes. And that's just under the floor, I've got more stuff stored in the cubbies on each side.

It is a first for me as well. I only have had the car for a few days and it has been working flawlessly. It is very nice to not have to plug in my phone.

I am also impressed by how little it consumed battery. Bringing the car home was a two hour drive, with google maps running and on a phone call for most of the trip, and it probably only took about 15 to 20% of my phone battery life. I was expecting way more.

Yes the CX-9 can recline like that. You use the fold flat lever to recline it back. Always nice to find a feature after owning the car for a few years ;) (but with kids seat in the back, I also never use it)

Hello,
New member here and I picked up brand a CX70 Soul Red, Turbo S, Inline 6 Premium Plus yesterday. We had two Genesis GV70, which are beautiful cars, but for me, it's been a nightmare. My first GV70 2023, didn't make it past one year, with Limited Slip Differential issues. And I traded it for a 2024, which suffered a catastrophic engine failure at 850 miles and that one is still at the dealer, waiting an engine and transmission replacement, which I've notified Genesis I'm unwilling to accept in a brand new car, I've owned less than 2 months. It will be there a month on Wednesday, so in Florida, it immediately will qualify for Lemon Law. So we traded the other GV70 (another 2023) on the Mazda and will deal with the other car when resolved. I can honestly say I will NEVER own another Genesis. Beautiful cars, but Genesis is just not ready for prime time.

I'm trying to learn all the tech in the Mazda, which differs greatly from Genesis. For example, when you save stations in FM HD to favorites and then save Sirius to favorites, in the Genesis, all your favorites regardless of source are shown in one list. In the Mazda, they are shown in FM or Sirius, not combined. And there is a "Ready" word shown on the digital cluster on the lower left hand bottom of the screen, that for the life of me I cannot figure out what it means. What is Ready? There's no reference to it in the owners manual that I can find? I wish the main infotainment screen was split screen, where you could display radio and map, like you can on the Genesis, but that's a minor nit. I never used the touch screen in the Genesis, so not having touch in the Mazda is not an issue for me. Yes, Apple CarPlay (which is wireless in the Mazda, something not available in the Genesis) is touch. But I don't even use touch for CarPlay as using the controller is for me, easier and safer as I don't want to divert my eyes to use af finger to poke a screen to adjust anything.

Amazon Alexa, integration is fun. We have Alexa, throughout the house. Setting up the integration with the car was no more difficult than scanning a QR code on my iPhone, and signing in. Once signed in it was simple. Say Alexa, set the temperature to 73 degrees and she does it. Say Alexa, play Sirius channel 78 and boom, the station changes. I even asked Alexa if my package was out for delivery (I knew I had one coming) and she told me it was and what time it should be delivered. Pretty awesome stuff!

Otherwise, the CX70 is a stunningly beautiful car. It's significantly bigger than a GV70 and I'm not used to driving a car as big. But the 360 Surround View Camera system is awesome, so it will come in very handy in tight spaces. The seats are perhaps the most comfortable seats I've ever sat on in a car. The interior of the car, with the Quilted Napa Leather and Alcantara Suede on the dash and door inserts is very VERY luxurious. Every button and switch feels great.

The inline 6 Turbo engine is sublimely smooth. The car handles bumps wonderfully and I'm surprised at how well the car handles corners. Far better than the Genesis. I've never owned a Mazda before, but I think the steering feel and breaks are also excellent. Steering feedback is perfect.

Anyway, hello from this new CX70 owner. I look forward to meeting you.

EDIT: I called Mazda, to ask what Ready means in the lower left hand corner of the instrument cluster means. It took a while for them to figure out, but all it means is the driver Air Bag, is ready and operational. I also couldn't figure out how to delete a saved station and while they gave me directions, they weren't right for a CX70, but by trial and error I found where you can edit your saved favorites.

And a couple requisite pics!

Congrats on the new car! Were you able to get any discount on the CX70?
Minimal discount, but the accessories I wanted they threw in at no cost. And I wanted the extended warranty including wheels and tires, key fob (ever needed to replace one and these puppies are outrageously expensive) and dent protection) and they gave a huge discount on that to help me.

The reality is I bought a car in the very first week they were hitting dealerships in the US, so not a great time to expect much of a discount. I'm the 4th CX70 they've sold. And they had a laundry list of people who would have stepped in to buy the one I bought, but I had put a small deposit on it a week ago, to make sure it would be mine when it arrived.

Did you know the CX70 was significantly bigger than the GV70 before the purchase? It's essentially the same size as the CX90!

I never suggested I wasn't aware it was larger than a GV70. LOL I had even test driven the very first one the dealer got. I'm just not used to driving a car as large as the CX70.

When I bought my 2017 MX-5 my BMW/Porsche instructor friend was impressed with the quality and finish of the interior compared to his BMWs and Porsches. Not the same level of material and sturdiness, but for the price a much better value. Why I really expected to own the CX-70 and would have had it been the midsize everyone expected.

Steering feel and weight in the CX-90 I drove was very good. That is one big knock on pretty much all BMWs like the X5 I bought. They are accurate and precise but lack good road feedback that gives information about what the tires are doing.

Mazdas have always been the "fun to drive" vehicle compared to their price competitors. Always felt nimbler. Not always the practicality leader, but the one you wanted to actually drive.

My wife never cared until now. She put 4,600 miles on her X5 in 2 months and my daughter's comment is "Mom drives faster." Part of that is 400hp and a ZF transmission. But a lot is the driving dynamics of the vehicle. It is why she ranked the CX-50 (was a little small for her) #2 behind the X5. Mazda's drive better than Toyotas, Hondas, Fords, GMs, Hyundai/Kia...

One of my early concerns with the CX70/90 in both mild and PHEV was the drivetrain layout. I considered the CX90 PHEV but a test drive quickly convinced me to avoid it - the wet clutch system and the clunky transition from electric to ICE was a huge red flag. The inline 6 has a decent amount of power on paper but it seems to kick in a bit later than other Mazdas I've owned or driven in the past.

I'm 2 months in with my Volvo XC60 Recharge - zero issues with it - I've got >2k miles on it and have bought gas once. The swap from electric to the ICE is super smooth - I like the "disconnected" drivetrain layout - the ICE (314hp) drives the front wheels and the 141hp electric motor drives the rear wheels - no drivetrain 'handoff'. It's super smooth and hits 60 significantly faster than the 400hp Explorer ST with half the noise.

I recently saw the 2025 BMW X3M - and I gotta say, I'm glad I didn't hold out for that thing 'cause it's ugly on a lot of levels and less powerful than what I wound up getting in the Volvo.

Bringing this thread back as I noticed this video on the redesigned Honda Passport. Still has the camo in the video but totally can see the shape. I presume this will have the Pilot's naturally aspirated V6 and torque vectoring (like the current gen Passport did), and just as importantly will have those coveted-by-some 5 seater dimensions.

Sorry to say, but if this is as well reviewed as the Pilot (far from perfect but checked a lot of my boxes), I'd be interested over the Mazda. Not nearly as nice looking and I assume the interior won't match the luxury of the CX70, but if the engine is as good as expected and the AWD can rotate it thru a corner, only thing left would be the looks. I don't mind boxy. But at times Honda interiors bore me so I'll have to wait and see.

Other small thing, much of the quirks with new designs would have been worked out in the Pilot, so makes jumping in to the first yr not as scary.

I'm planning to buy the CX-70 or 90 in about 5-7 months, depending on what I can get for rates and the options I want.
  • Turbo S or S Premium
    • 5000lb towing capacity
    • Larger fuel tank capacity; 19.6 gal vs 18.5 for the non S.
  • No black paint , no black interior. Gets too hot in summer.
  • I like the Dark red artisanal color of the CX-90, but also like the red interior of the CX-70.
    • Jyst wonder if there are any CX-70's with Soul Red paint AND the red interior?
After coming from a 2008 Scion xB, all the extra's are going to be different.
Planning to keep this car for well over 10 years if at all possible.

I have the 2025 turbo s premium and its black. It really looks nice and I love it when its cleans unfortunately its hard to keep it clean.
I'm now having buyers remorse for buying it, simply because I have high expectations. I owned and drive BMWs, had gen1 to g3 X5s, still have a g30 540i and whenever i change vehicle to drive I find it hard to accept that i bought in to the hype. I don't intend to discourage you or anyone else 'coz not everyone have the same likes and dislike and it is a good looking suv. I am going back to x5 and actively looking around for a e70 or f15 x5 knowing full well that they have questionable reliability.
I strongly suggest asking for at least a days drive to get a better feel of the vehicles characteristics if you haven't driven one.
