New Turbo Kit

Hey, I deleted my other post. I have a loose 1500$ budget as of today. I'm going to boost my 2002 DX, but I need to figure out a way to make this budget work. I just want to get enough in there to get started (3-4psi) and then upgrade as I get more money this fall. Right now I'm looking at the garrett T28 (obvious choice) with FMU controller and manual boost controller. I'm trying to figure out what to do about the exhaust manifold though, maybe someone is selling their MSP one? hint hint..Or the spool "log style" exhaust manifold. Your help would be GREATLY appreciated on this matter. Or, in your opinion, would it wiser to go with upgrading the car itself first? (clutch/flywheel/headers/etc..)
thanks for your help guys! -Kyle

Save your money, and wait until you can afford to do things right. There is no sense in building a partial turbo kit when in just a few months you could do things right.

Actually, he is doing it the fun way. Piece your own kit together, but Micah is right, dont install untill its ALL complete

if your gonna put a turbo kit together yourself, try and get your hands on the manifold and turbo. Those are the two biggest parts and often cost the most money. Then is the downpipe..
After that you just collect and figure out the little stuff

look for a used turbo.... the DSM boards are the BEST place to find turbos....those guys are selling them every day.

I picked up an IMMACULATE t25 turbo from a DSM guy for $150 CANADIAN!!!

not sure what I am doing with it, but I could not resist.

DSM boards? where can I find this? My god thats a deal. The cheaper I can do this the better..My only problem is i just dont know what to do first. Get my wheels and do all the little stuff (clutch/flywheel/HID's/motor work) blah blah or just start out with the turbo...too many questions...

Boost Controllers are useless...what kind of wastegate are you going to use to control the boost? Boost controllers only work by bleeding off vacuum/boost to the wastegate, allowing for MORE boost than the WG is set for - never less.

well the T28 is internally wastegated..i dont need the boost controller because i can use the 5psi spring to control it....hey, want to sell me your T25 from the boards? I could REALLY use it!

does spool still sell the starter kit or whtvr it was called, taht just had the turbo, and the manifold, and I believe that was it..

you know im not really sure, i dont think so, i dont see it on the site..i emailed them the other day..haven't heard back from them

his starter kit also includes the all important oil feed lines and fitting too

Yes we still sell our starter kits, we just dont sell them alot so ther are not on the site. The include the turbo, manifold ceramic coated, oil lines and downpipe. Its $1350. The rest you can piece out your self. Also have the same setup but with an upgraded turbo (t3/t4) for 1399:)

really? I'll have to think about that. The price is pretty solid. Right now I'm looking at a slightly used T28, retrofitting a intercooler from a SR20DET, but I'm still looking for the exhaust manifold. I just need to keep my budget.

Hey Spool :)

Are you claiming 150whp for 4.5psi, NON-intercooled? what's the deal w/ this dyno? What were the conditions, etc?

darin...not a flame...but there are soo many posts regarding spool.

4.5 NON intercooled....stage 1, shorty manifold, Vortech FMU

I know - and I have read them. I just think 4.5psi non-intercooled making 150whp is very hard to believe.

(shrug). Show me a post which explains both lines on that dyno. :) I'm looking for answers - that's all.

Yeah, I agree with Darin. Nothing against Spool at all but the dyno can be confusing. Whats the second line etc.? Although, I wouldn't know if 151whp was unrealistic, i'm not that smart.
