New Transmission Only 35K Miles

For the past couple of months had a squeaking noise coming from the engine compartment everytime car shifted from 2nd to 3rd. Turns out there is a known problem, caused by a Transmission Leak, luckily I've got 3-months left on my warranty. Problem is that there are no transmissions in the system & there's a 3-month backlog at the earliest. Sadly, starting my process of looking for a replacement vehicle, but we still truly love our CX-5.

Are you saying that due to the 3 month backlog the replacement won't be covered by the warranty?

I had a similar situation with my 2020, was told 3 months and it ended up being only 4-5 weeks before a replacement transmission was available.

I don't think he is saying that I think he is saying there are no available transmissions so he is without a vehicle for 3 months is what it sounds like to me.

That recently happened to my Brother in-law on his 2019 cx5 turbo..they told him there were no transmissions available but ultimately they did get one shipped from Japan quicker than what they anticipated. He was provided with a loaner thru the dealership that he bought the car new.

I don't think he is saying that I think he is saying there are no available transmissions so he is without a vehicle for 3 months is what it sounds like to me.

In my case I was able to continue to drive the car until a replacement transmission was available. Then the dealer provided a loaner for a week or so while they replaced the transmission.

Hey Everyone: Read the entire thread & let me straighten out my posting. My 2020 CX-5, with 35,353 miles is still covered by the warranty, but now without the car until the new transmission arrives which right now is scheduled for 2 June 2025 at the earliest per the dealer. Have a loaner from the dealer; & have to renew the loaner agreement every 30-days. Plus have to replace the belt tensioner as well for its beginning to leak. Right now all transmissions are made in either Japan or Thailand. Was given a CX-50, which it's alright for the short term; wouldn't buy it as a permanent vehicle.

Sorry it happened, hope it works out well. Different car, but I also (still have) 1999 Lexus RX300. Complained about a known weak transmission issue but was ignored until right before the 7-year warrantee ran out. Finally, Lexus replaced the transmission with a brand-new updated unit ordered from Japan. I had to wait for weeks with a Dodge Neon loaner that only had crank windows and was awful to drive, but my car turned out great and still really durable 250,000 miles later. I hope your experience is as worthwhile.

Ok. What I was trying to figure out is which transmission you have. The transmission is different for the diesel and turbo motors, and the NA motor. It's of course also different with the manual transmission cars. So as far as I can tell, there are three different transmissions in these cars.

Was just gonna say - I have a 2020, and it's 5 years unlimited mileage on the powertrain. You should be covered.
