I have seen threads on other forums that relate to a "What is it worth?" topic.

This would be an area where a person who is buying or selling a car can get an idea what others here think the vehicle is worth. You would not be allowed to post contact info, or link to any ads or "for sale" listings of said vehicle, unless the linked ad is an APPROVED ad on the mazdas247.com site.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Hello friends, I am looking for a value range for a:

92 Miata, 32k miles, 5spd, Hardtop, no rust, interior is a 8/10, exterior is an 8/10, and mechanically a 9/10.

We occasionally get those here. Considering we require photos with signage for "Gauging Interest" threads - we would also require them for "What is it worth?" threads. Just as with "GI" threads, the basic problem with treating a "What is it worth?" thread any differently than a standard "FS" thread, is that the "WIIW" thread can very easily turn into a for-sale thread if someone happens upon it and is interested in the item posted. In reality, whether or not contact info is posted, it's not so hard for someone to figure out how to contact you: they can post on the thread, send a PM, or even email/IM (if you have these items input into your profile).

We can't let the casual title become a loophole for those who aren't inclined to post proper photos, or worse: those who actually are interested in running a scam.

Thanks for the response Nate! The issues you raise are exactly what I was trying to think of a way to avoid.

Perhaps a WIIW thread could be started by a moderator only? The WIIW interested party could send a message to the MOD with the required info, and the MOD would post the WIIW thread to the forum, therefore nobody would know the buying/selling party and the contact info could be withheld by the MOD.

Sounds a bit cumbersome just to avoid having to take a picture. No?

Yes, I agree.

I guess I was thinking more about those folks who do not have the vehicles to take pics of because they are not selling, instead they are BUYING the vehicle and want an opinion or consensus as to value.

Oh I must have misunderstood. Yes, that is permitted if they are buyers asking for pricing advice. These threads are usually located in lounge areas of model-specific forums.
