New Key Battery not working (2017 Mazda2)

Hi. My 2017 Mazda 2 key battery is getting low and the key is refusing to work with new batteries. I've tried 2 brand new Duracells and the does not respond. When reinstalling the old one, it works fine.
The batteries are all the same (2025). All reading 3v. The new ones are slightly higher as expected. The contacts are all clean

What am I missing? Does the key need to be re-registered when a new battery is used?

Wipe the new batteries with an alcohol wipe and handle by the battery edge only. In addition, clean the contacts in the key fob. You don't need to make any other changes. Ed
