New 08.5 True Red Speed3 Hit Already

Hey guys. First post here and unfortunately it's a crappy one. Got my Speed3 July 31, 2008, and only have 918 miles on it so far. Love this car! So fast and fun to drive. Coming from an 03 Evo, this car has a lot to offer for the money. After finally breaking this thing in, I was having some fun with it tonight. Then, just cruising normally at about 45, I see this huge racoon on the side of the road up ahead. Seeing that there were no oncoming cars, I switched lanes to separate myself further from the racoon. Just as I get up to it, it decides the smartest thing to do would be to run across the street in the lane I was driving in resulting in me smashing the s*** out of him going about 35 at that point. I pull over and see a good portion of my grille is bent up and cracked, the bumper is amazingly perfect aside from some scratches, but the radiator got smashed enough it's gonna need to get replaced. I'm so pissed! I never hit one efing thing with my last car in the 6 years I owned it. And now less than one month, this happens. Sorry, had to vent. Just not too happy about this. But my question for you guys is, do you know whether or not this will fall under my comp insurance? I don't see why not.

Your covered if you have full coverage. You will only be out your deductible. My deductible is $500 so I would hate it.

I underwrote policies for several years. Hitting animals falls under your comprehensive. It's considered a not at fault claim. If you have hair or blood on the car, take pictures and present them to your adjuster.

I somehow have not one fur or spec of blood on my bumper despite nailing that thing full force. I hope it's not dead, either. I hope he's in the woods suffering a painful death. I'm cruel. But I love my car too much.

You picked up your 2008.5 True Red one day after me and have about 50 more miles. I'm worried I'm going to hit a racoon in a couple of days now.

When I read the title I thought you meant hit by a car, so comparatively this doesn't sound so bad.

it must be fun tryin to find blood on a red car lol yeah furry animals seem to be the brightest tools. i had one of them run in front of the integra when i was taking it out on a street tune so u can imagine the force i hit it with. lets just say i needed a new xmember and radiator, lucky not a new intercooler. Atleast its not as bad as some old lady ramming the ms3 at a stop light on my first road trip with it.

This seemed to me like a classic example of an animal trying to zigzag to escape a predator. There haven't been enough generations of squirrel/raccoon/etc for them to figure out the car isn't chasing them. A classic example of someone entering a situation with the wrong mindset (the raccoon, not you lol).

Hey hey someone called me RIGHT when I was pulling up to the light, don't blame me.

this doesn't help but for maybe the future. Most animals will run towards the way they came from even if they are closer to the "other" side.

although at night, they tend to go towards your car lights.

if i see any type of animal on the road...i'll start blaring the horn until i've past it and slow down as much as I can (20mpg if no other cars) until i pass.

animals are just too unpredictable so take as much caution as you can if you see one on the road.

Hey guys. Sorry to bring back a topic from a little bit back, but thought i would update with good news. Bumper is completely fixed and you'd never know i got a new one. I don't know if the paint matches 100% cuz my car is only one month old or the shop is just that good, but I'm so happy my speed is back to perfect condition. Only had to pay $100. I'd post pics but I have no idea how to do it.

I had a racoon bounce off the front bumper too. It was a glancing blow that left no damage. I don't know what the condition of the racoon was.

awwww.... that sucks

well, gave the pic thing a try. looks like i'm missing something here lol. but u get the gist. first two pics are when the bumper was hit. nothing too bad, but enough to piss me off. didn't take new pics of new bumper, but it's flawless. and then just some normal beauty shots after the car was fixed. gave it a nice detail job.
