I just realized that your name contained MSP. I was looking for the P5 tires, but the above still applies...

Toyo Proxes 4's. They are $88 per tire, and very good bang for the buck. I've had them for 12k and they will easily last me another 15k. And this coming from someone who got 15k out of the stock tires.

Kumho Mx's are on special at tirerack right now ($109). They are great tires.

I went with the Fuzion ZRi's ($84) when I replaced the stock tires. On the street they are a great tire and seem to be wearing very nicely. I had about 12k on them when I put the snow tires on. The ultimate cornering grip is about the same as stock, on center steering feel seems slightly reduced as does forward bite. Wet traction is very good.

I've been pumped up about the BF Goodrich G-Force Sport on my MSP. They are stickier than the stock Bridgestones and didn't cost a lot ($100 per in 215/45/17).

Can't go wrong with Proxes 4! But sidewall is kinda soft although steering response is excellent (just a different feel)

Of all the tires listed above, you'll probably be happy with any of them.. For the last 3 or 4 days I have been studying tires to try and decide on what tire I'm getting next. I almost went with the G-Force Sport. I heard some gooood things about this tire. However, i went ahead and ordered up a set of the PZero Nero M+S. These should be in tomorrow. With a tread wear rating of 400, these should last me for the whole summer and into early winter. These tires were tops in it's class at tire rack. So, i hope to get some good miles and driving out of these..

You wont be sorry ... the PZero Nero M+S kick some ass. Great handling and no road noise. Unlike most products made by this company, i can stand to ride in the car with these installed. Most of thier tires are so annoyingly loud.

Falken GRB FK415..... Freaking sweett.... and the longest tire name in the world! Just wait till you have to say it to your tire guy.

Yeah, the PZero's are great. I've put about 3500 miles on them so far, and man has it been great. Very quiet and seemingly predictable at their limits. Very good choice. But now i have another issue. When I mounted the tires, I found out that the lip on the inner portion of one of the rims is bent in one spot. Shyt, I don't know how long it's been there, but so far it's holding pressure. So now I have to decide on whether or not to get after market rims or not.

www.tirerack.com has a pretty good comparison chart thing.

Here's my own personal experience:

Kumho 712: A definate step up fron the stock P5 Dunlops, but not really a great tire. They seem to do everything competently, but nothing that impressed me too much. They lasted a good 20,000 miles of my hard driving, and they never got loud at all. Also, they really let you know when they're about to let go. SQUEEEALLL!

Falken Azenis: The grip is unreal, among the best I've ever tried in a dry weather tire, and they aren't too shabby in the rain, either. They did get a little greasy at the track, though, and they were bald after about 8k miles of "spirited" driving. For all-out grip, these are the tire.

Toyo T1-S: I replaced the Azenis with these tires(on the Miata). They have great grip and they also make it very clear when they're about to slip. The sidewall isn't as stiff as the Azenis, so you have to plan ahead a little bit, but the grip is damn near where the Falkens are and for 54 bucks a tire(onlinetires.com), they can't be beat. These are the tire of choice for the Miata.net crew. NO greasing up and they will last much longer than the Azenis. T1-Ss are some of the lightest weight street tires out there.

Yoko Parada SpecII: Again, great grip. Not quite as sticky as the Falkens, but they lasted twice as long and they really came into their own at the track. They got pretty loud toward the end, so I was rotating them about once every two weeks. I finally just bought new tires because the road noise was bugging so much. They still had about 5% tread left when I put the new tires on.

BF Goodrich KDW: My new tires on the P5. So far they grip like a 13 year old with a Hustler! In the rain I find myself with a lot more confidence than the Yoko's. I honestly think that the Yoko's may have had a little better dry grip, but the road noise and price of the Paradas made me pick these tires...plus winter's here and the Paradas were a little sketchy in the rain. I love the tread pattern on these tires and they have nice, deep treads, so I think they'll last as long as the Yokos without a problem

this raises a question for me...WHAT is so special about RE040s? you're saying that a $100 tire has more grip than a $240 tire. Not to mention the treadwear rating on RE040s is 140. They should sticky like fly paper(uhm)

Yep, that's bulls***. The stockers can't be beat for dry grip...because the treadwear is 140! But they suck ass in the rain, and forget about driving in the snow. Unfortunately, I didn't realize these tires would wear so fast, so I'm looking at a set of new sneakers at 20k miles!

I also have the proxes 4. Great in wet, good in dry, but the soft sidewall hurts handling. Its a worthy sacrifice though, since the car is much quieter on the highway and much more forgiving on rough roads.

Ive had them 4k miles and they look brand new.

I'll be getting the gforce sports next time around though.

edit: The re040s are grippy enough for stock, but once you have any more power, you will quickly realize what a waste 1st gear is, plus they get very loud and after about half the wear they SUCK in rain. Only great thing is the sidewall, you can really push them in the corners and they feel tight and in control.
