Nav: map orientation from "north up" to "head up"

I've reread the manual three times, and I'm not getting it to work .........

I want to change the "map orientation" from "north up" to "head up". Manual says: push enter, and select.

I've tried doing this in every screen mode I can, and I never get this selection. Pg 419 of the PDF manual

Thanks

On the left upper hand of your NAV screen you'll see an icon that look likes a flagpole...click toggle that and you'll get the orientation that you want

I wondered about that, but whatever screen I was in, I couldn't get over there ....... I'll try again when I get to the car, thanks.

Separate question:
is there a differene between being a Memory Point, being in the Address Book, or being a Preset Destiantion ???

Click the POS button to be sure you are in the default map screen. Then push the Enter (middle of joystick). Then push the joystick left and up. The compass point should highlight. Then push enter to change the orientation.

LOL, got it - wicked confusing, I'll stick with North Up .....

Anyway to get it to actually tell you the numerical compass heading ???

Do they ever release new firmware for it ? Is the firmware on the CD, or in the unit ???

Open glove box. Look inside way in the back. See DVD drive. Push button and out pops the DVD. Or maybe that's to confusing.

urrrmmmppphh ..... is the software that drives the actual operation (menus, options, etc) resident on the CD, or is it burned into Flash memory in the unit itself ?

i.e. - will software updates, TO THE OPERATING SYSTEM, be done by changing CDs, or by burning Flash at the dealer ?

I don't mean the map database.

New MS3 owner with Nav System issues

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 and it has the Nav option. (what a practical and fun car!)

I am having difficulty using the manual (like the person in this thread). I too could not change map orientation - the manual did not explain the process.(confused)

I have other questions about the nav system, such as: I am not able to activate the POI function. The manual says to select the POI's you want and then select "show"??!! no such button or menu!!

I feel stupid trying to follow the manual when all the steps are not explained.(huh)

Is there a better manual?

LOL, it is a stupid manual !

a) Push the POS button (the defualt screen)

b) Push Enter, the compass will change to black background, meaning "selectable now", jog over to it, and then push enter when it highlights. It toggles. I'm doing this from memory, but I think that's it. Once I changed it I realized how confusing it was in that mode, and went back to North Up.

I'll have to look tomorrow at the POI thing - there is a Show, under the POIs in Route Options, I think (again from memory).

Map orientation fianlly changed

I must have gremlins. I did as you instructed three times and kept getting new "Way Points". I yelled at the device and tried it again and it worked. (braindead

My next trick will be to change the orientation back to "North". Good gravy I must be stupid. Yelling helped though!

Now for POI activation - any advice there?

THANKS!!!

Hey all...A couple of nav questions for you all. I too wonder if an updated DVD has come out. Also, is there any way to shut off permanantly the first warning screen? I have a "voice" button on the control panel but I can't seem to get the voice command function to work. Any ideas?

Nav question

I'm still new with the Nav system also. My question would be how do you delete existing waypoints or destinations once there entered? thanks for the help.(drive2)

If you have the '06 DVD, that's the latest.
No on the warning screen.
There is no voice command in this version. The voice button triggers the NAV to give you the next route instruction. I does nothing if you haven't selected a destination.

Way Ponts Deleted

I just deleted the way points I did not want to begin with while I was trying to adjust map orientation. I'll do it again and let you know how I did it. There was a screen with the option to delete the way points but how I got there - ???

This sounds like the sight impaired being guided by the brain impaired!

How about a special section on the website for navigation? - help for those like me from kind knowledgeable people!(group)

The MUTE button is where my old horn used to be, so several times now I have hit the MUTE and yelled at somebody thinking it was the horn, but net results was just me yelling at top of my lungs in a silent car, LOL ........

After you push POS, then the Set As and POI boxes show up, then at that point you can jog over and select the compass, way point, or POI I think. It's confusing because you (I) wouldn't think that he compass is selectable because the other two boxes just showed up.

See if under Route Options there is a POI selection

Took me a while to figure out when adding Way Points that it brings up a screen with 5 slots you can put Waypoints into.

When it says "current position" it means where the map is now showing (or was before you went into that add waypoint menu), so you have to map over to where you want, then you slect the arrow for where you want to slide in the waypoint.

How to temporarily mute the voice guidance?

Does anybody know how to temporarily mute the voice guidance without canceling the guidance? If my phone rings and I need to talk for a minute, pressing "mute" cancels the stereo sound, but the navigation voice is very annoying. Initially I thought that pressing the Voice button will turn the voice guidance on/off but it does not. Thank you. (uhm)

Ditto, apparently even if you fold the screen down, she keep talking ......

Ok, I've held my tongue long enough.

HANG UP AND DRIVE!

If you pull over to talk on the phone, the nav won't have anything to say.
