NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

Unfortunately I'm plagued with the mind set of having to know every option and know the possibilities of each, then not being able to choose between them(them being FS turbo/NA or KL turbo/NA). And its only been in the past couple months that I've been pretty much set on the NA KL, For the obvious reasons. Whole bunch of excuses why I haven't started this yet but(blah)you know.

Well anyway, from what Im told the best thing to do is buy a donor V6 Mx-6 and you'll have all the parts you need for the swap. Instead of Having to go back and forth between the parts store and yard.

Now as far as performance goes, It looks like customs cams are going to the be the hardest thing to find or make as I cant find anybody that sells un-ground billet cams. But I've only been looking for a few days. I will definately be asking your input on the subject of headers and intake. Everything else I can find pretty much. 2.7L is very tempting and 270whp out of a protege FS or KL Turbo or NA will make it a F-ing monster.

Well back to getting lost in th Web of Info.

By that do you mean that you haven't found any place that lists "unground billet cams" in their catalog? If so, I'd imagine that you'd probably have to contact someplace more directly and ask them to sell you a blank set.

Yeah I figured that is what is going to have to do but I figure I'll just skim the web for awhile to see if anyone even offers them for the KL

I always loved the sound of the KL in my 93 mx6. With a nice cold air intake and a nice deep exhaust the engine really sounds great. More pleasing then a turbo 4 anyways. Too much one wheel spinning to make a serious car though, but with the MSP LSD I bet it would have hooked up great.

Just bought 10.4:1 J-Spec Pistons from a member on the forums. Now just have to save up for the JDM camshafts, and SR Adjustable Cam Gears, and standalone. I also will be porting and pollishing intake and exhaust ports on head before I install these. Hopefully that will put me close to 200HP

A while back I was in Contact with DOMSPUN(has performed a few swaps). This is basically what is needed. The most important thing is that Mechanically its a direct swap. By direct I mean No custom parts, well almost none. Obviously beefed up parts may be in order, is 250whp is the goal in mind.

Also keep in mind this is the basic List of things needed. He didnt go into complete detail as the list was in french and at the time he did not feel like translating.

sorry to dredge this up again

but can you please confirm that it is a direct swap i.e. the engine mounts will bolt up?

Bino wants to know... and i'm sure everyone else does too :)

This is the PM I that I got from him. I've even tried contacting him a in the past couple of day to no avail. There a french canadian forum I see him on but I dont speak the language unfortunatly. So this is the only conformation as of now. I've even tried contacting TwoFastRacing, Havent heard back yet. So I'm still trying to conform all this.

Hey whats up, I've just spent the last hour reading through the "V6 for P5" thread, trying to find out what I need for the swap. And my head kind of hurts at the moment. So if uts not not much trouble could you list the parts you used for it, I figure you did it and know what works. Cause its a pain tryin to figure out what works and what doesnt from that thread. What im drivin right now is a 02 Protege. I want to Stay N/A and the the KL is a better option than the FS. Im lookin to do this in the next couple of months and want to start gettin the parts I need together for the swap. Well thanks for any info you can give me.

Thanks again
Mike

Hi,

I have a complete list in french, I won't translate it, but I'll give you a good idea of what you need.

- Complete V6 engine and transmission with the half-shaft(or joint shaft?) plus uncut wiring harness, ECU and VAF(airflow sensor)

- Radiator and piping, either a MX-6 one or our custom aluminium V6 radiator for Protege(made by Ron Davis). If you use a MX-6 rad, you'll need to make some brackets. Our V6 rad fit bolt-on.

Everything fits bolt-on, you'll need to adapt the wiring to the dash harness and fuse box. You'll also need to adapt fuel line and exhaust. It's all pretty easy.
Two things won't work or do strange things, the tach and the temp gauge, so get after-market ones.

If you want you can send me the list in french, I can figure it out. And one other thing how much is the handling comprimised, I realise its nothing that cant be fixed with some tuning and some weight reduction up front, I just want to know what Im gettin into.

Thanks again

The complete V6 engine with Accesories is 60 pounds heavier the the FS with the same accessories. We ussually put the Battery in the trunk and it handle better than with the FS!!

I'll look for the file, and I'll sent it.

From Stephane Mcneil of TwoFastRacing

Hello, What you need for a complete swap of KLZE in your protege is:
the engine KLZE
trany from the original KLZE or a trany of 626 93-97
you gonna need complete axle of the 626 right & left 93-97
normally we put a new distributor $450.00
the wiring harness of the KL
wiring diagram of the protege
Radiator of 626
thats it

From that statment, I am gathering that the answer to everyones' question is, YES. The KL is a direct swap with the FS.
