Post your race results here!

Detail your times, your position (if applicable) and the track/event you competed in.

This is for legal/sanctioned race and test events only. Street races will be removed on sight (please report if there are some posted here).

You can also post some pics and a bit of a diary of the event you participated in too, if you like.

What did you post your 15.581 in?

My MP3 at the track a couple weeks ago:

R/T .197
60' 2.515
1/8 11.415@60.37
1/4 17.934@76.56

I think the track's elevation is about 4500 feet and we had a bad head wind from a storm moving in, but I still think I should be faster.

my SP20 Protege sedan... (MP3 basically). That time was posted with nothing more than a microtech engine management system with X4 ignition module and bosch coils (as well as some beefcake leads)...so essentially that is what fuel and ignition control will give you (really rough tune too, hardly any advance on the timing over stock).

I've since posted a 15.2 at just short of 90 mph, with the addition of my custom/short run (the twiggy sticks, as they have become known) cams and a 3in monster side exit exhaust pipe, still sucking off of the stock exhaust manifold.

I do strip the car a little bit for racing - back seat and spoiler comes off..

My new exhaust header is in pieces under the house, just looking for some free weekends so i can cut and weld that up, and do up the new exhaust system (2.5in - because i intend to go past 200whp, and i'll need the extra flow to support it), And i'm in the early design phases of a custom ram tunnel intake manifold (which will develop positive pressure, without the aid of a power adder...).

Basically, an exhaust system sees me in the 14s.... intake manifold will prob see me in the mid 14's with the addition of some race rubber and an LSD...

BONE STOCK i had the thing in the high 16's... mid to low 16's bone stock with my normal weight reduction.

Technique has a lot to do with it, as well as the fact that i race on (arguably) the fastest track in the southern hemisphere - and one of the quickest in the world....Willowbank Raceway.

You're still freaky fast compared to the likes of us... I'm still struggling to get past 16... but then I've got quite a bit of extra weight in the car.

Hmmm... maybe if I take my extra tires out of the garage (I have AD07s worn to within a few millimeters of bare) and go down to the track...

Today i went to the track and I hit
17.3 at 80mph
0-60: 2.6
RT: 0.04

Timeslip coming soon... and i'm an Automatic, SportAT... w/e u wanna call it

16.8 @ 83mph
2.2sec 60ft...

Only mods I have are K&N filter and Cat back Exhaust...

This time was done on the Good Friday meet at Willowbank Raceway in Australia back in 2006. With a freshly rebuilt motor (abeit no butterflies in the intake manifold), better tyres, some new engine mounts and some other stuff i'll have another go down the track maybe early next year...

Lordworm, I'll have to get either you or gav to do that TB mod that u's have been talking about for about a year or so...

marc

Ps, whats it like to have ya licence back dave?

dave? Greg ;)

Its alright - its ruined driving a little for me - its become more of a mode of transport... the car also isn't running the best, 6 months of neglect while i couldn't drive it means i need a whole new set of bushes, i've got some fueling issues with the tune since fixing my throttlebody gasket leak and a couple of other things that aren't quite right - but i'll hopefully have it ready to go back at the track early in the new year...hoping to finally crack into the 14's...

TB mod is a piece of cake really... let me know when it suites you and i'll get it done for you :)

2.2 60 is pretty good on street tires, what launch RPM are you using?

lol sorry there are too many gregs and daves on the agt forums, I get soo confused :P

The TB will prolly have to be done sometime in teh new year, considering every weekend till the middle of january will be time spent at the coast :D.

I didnt think it was that bad, was revving it 4500rpm and dumping the clutch, lol maybe thats why my clutch is rooted... :( Too bad the 454ci powered HG premier that I raced enialated me, he did like a 10.2 @ 150mph!!!

4500 is miles too high... 4000 is a good number, its about as high as i can push without breaking traction out of the hole...

dumping clutch isn't the best way to go either...best bet is to ride 1st all the way out....(which hurts your clutch, but riding the clutch keeps the RPMs up and prevents bogging down off the line....)

i hope you guys break your times. when it gets cold next year, heh i live in florida, i should have my header/midpipe combo... that and the racing fuel should get me to 16's...

holy crap i'm slow

4000 rpm launch is the best for me too. When the season ended I was still trying to find a good rpm between 3500 and 4000.

Any have to launch from a line that isn't flat? I have to stay on the brake just a hair, otherwise my car rolls back and I red light. I've tried using the e-brake and also resting my toe on the brake pedal and negotiating the gas with the side of my foot. I like the latter best, but that makes it extremely difficult to slip the clutch.

can't say i've ever had the problem of the car rolling back...

i used to hold the car with the clutch....build launch RPM and release the clutch just enough so it starts to bite but i'm not creeping forward....was a good technique, but its hell on the clutch...
these days, i preload against the handbrake - you can negate a whole lot of transmission and driveline shock if you pull up the handbrake and preload the driveline against it.....

but 4k rpm is where its at - unless you are a demon out of the hole and can stop the thing spinning at 4500....

Handbrake is your best bet... I've seen some of my best launches pre-loaded against the brake. I just don't do it anymore because I'm still running an OEM clutch, and I'm saving up for a new one.

4500 is insanely high. I'm already running Ultra High Performance street tires (Neova AD07s) and going over 4100-4200 rpms on the launch just ends in tire smoke... I guess if you can find a good way to modulate it, you can launch that high, but otherwise, 4000 is the best.

I'm at 16 flat now, full interior with a spare, but at 1/4th tank or lower. Still haven't found a good strip to test at, though.

yeah i can't hold the smoke back even at a fully race prepped track if its over 4000rpm....

pull out your interior and spare :) you should be good for a low 15 :)

Mid-15, maybe... I've an extra set of tires that are smaller... running 205/50R16s, and the extra set are some pretty worn (but terribly grippy last time I put them on) 205/45R16s. They felt great when the tread went down to where it is (I estimate about 2-3 mm depth), lots of grip, no squirm in the corners... but I had to take them off due to safety considerations (rain).

My problem is I don't have a flat track. That 16 is going uphill in the last 80 meters (about 5-10 degrees incline).

all certified dragstrips in australia (and our regulations are comparable with NHRA) have an incline.... i can't remember the exact figures but i think its between 4 and 8 degrees - outside of that and it wont be accredited...

i run 205/45/16's for my daily street tires

looking at getting some light weight 15in rims for drag racing, and going to 215's in a 50 series..... nice and wide...lots of sidewall....

When I mentioned e-brake, I wasn't even thinking of preloading. I was simply applying enough to keep the car from rolling. Good info guys, keep it coming.

What rpm do you shift? When you shift do you slip the clutch going back in or just drop it between gears?

I always shift at redline...every gear (and my redline is 7000rpm btw)
shifting at peak power or peak torque or whatever does not always equate to peak accelleration

on the P5 tranny (and the 3 tranny, and the 6 tranny i'll add) the highest possible amount of static thrust is achieved at or around redline. This is because of the torque multiplying effect of gearings...

between gears? dump the clutch.... i'm getting a valve thingy installed which will slip the clutch slightly between gears automatically for me (basically 1 way valve that holds pressure in the clutch line briefly between changes) to help protect the gearbox from shockload, but essentially i just bang the clutch in then out.....
