My speed won't start...advice/suggestions please!

My '03.5 protege speed has been sitting in the garage for a year because I was away. And now it won't start, so I try to jump it, and instead of starting the engine, my car goes haywire - the horn honks and lights blink randomly (not like that factory alarm) and the car wont start. I tried disarming the alarm with the keychain thing to no avail. The last time I drove my car was last year 4/4/2012 and it was fine. I'm guessing its something electrical? And the only mod I have that would be messing with my electrical during the engine starting process is a turbo timer, but could that be the problem? I don't think so. Comments are much appreciated!

lock and unlock the driver door like 3 times with the key. sounds like the anti-theft is activated.

Put the key in the door to unlock it, then put it in the ignition switch and turn it to the on position, I go through this every time I unhook my battery. Sometimes it will take a few minutes before it will allow it to start

if the horn is honking all random and lights blinking, its most likely the alarm...it acts very differently than if you just hit the panic button (that is more 'in tune', if that makes sense)...

I guess there is a possibility that some animal got in your engine bay and made a new home...out of your electrical system...but i doubt that would result in the car behaving exactly like it does when the alarm 'really' goes off (i.e. not from the red button on the remote)...

Awesome, thanks guys! I did what you guys suggested which was to simply unlocking the door with the key a couple of times. I guess the battery in my keychain is dead. It started no problem, but now its idling horribly - it'll go up to about 3k and back to 500 and up then down to stall. Is that cuz I just need a new battery? Dirty MAF? Boost guage reads good vac tho. Thanks again!

It's re learning how to idle, it will take about 5 minutes for it to learn it again, it will also run a bit weird for 100 miles or so.

If it still does it after 5-10 minutes clean the egr valve
