hey, I've looked for info on this site but not much so I'm gonna ask. I can have a very good deal on a mx6 header which the seller was about to put it on his P5 but sold the car. I'm looking on http://www.protegefaq.net/mods_engine.html#headers which says mx6/probe 2.0L header fits with minor mods. anybody tried this? If yes, what needs to be done?

I know the main thing is that you will either need to shorten the length of the header where it bolts to the midpipe, or you will have to shorten you midpipe.

Google pics of a protege header and a mx6 header and youll see the difference.

As far as it bolting to the engine its the same. You will also need to work you EGR tube so that it bolts up to the bung on the header. And Im not too sure if the mounting brackets/hangers are in the same location or not.

Do it and make a write-up, ive been looking at doing this so i can have a 4-2-1 header since AWR and AutoEXE are too expensive for me :(

I did it. Bought the 100 dollar header from ebay, got it home, cut the end off it, joined it to the rest of the exhaust no problems. You will have to take it somewhere to get it welded on properly, but it shouldn't be expensive. It is a good header. Took 1/2 a second off my 0-60! Used it for about 8 months with zero issues. Was real easy to put on. I just plugged the egr bung on the header, and left the egr line open, no codes or anything related to the egr, just the o2 sensor code. For what i paid, if i have to replace it sometime its still a good deal

the only downside to leaving the egr disconnected is that whenever the car does the EGR selftest, the AFR's go a little crazy
thats about it though, i have my egr on the exhaust side capped and on the intake side its open to fresh air

sounds good to me, I'm buying one tomorrow, with the black ceramic coating from ebay so i'll do a write up when I'm done

did you install it yet? I bought one but waiting till spring to install so I want to see where you cut it and how it looks after. I'm even thinking of keeping it as is and bringing the resonator and cat further back, if it's possible.

Haven't installed it yet. Busy with college lately and crazy potholes we have worn out a few things. Both rear strut mounts and 2 tie rod end at the very least. So will change those in the next couple of weeks and then hopefully install it. I tried to get the gas line for the EGR at our Home Depot(New Brunswick, Canada), come to find out it's illegal to buy natural gas hoses unless your a certified technician. haha So I'll have to go the breather and cap method. You sure the 2nd O2 sensor won't work at original spot? I've checked and unless with the non fouler it comes that close to tranny, it looked like it had enough room. And Have any pics of yours installed like engine bay and underneath?

Ill try and get some, but yea i didnt work.

Could you let me know what size the bung is on the EGR fitting? I cant fit my sizing tool to get the right cap. Thats all i have to do. 1/2" pipe cap. 5/8" pipe cap both didnt work.

let me know! Thanks!
