MSP3 - 2nd to 3rd Gear Grinding Problem

hello all,

I just purchased a new black MSP3 on July 20,07 and about 3 weeks ago i started noticing some grinding when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear regardless of driving habbit. It has progressively gotten worse lately and i am experiencing it more often. Perhaps this is a common problem (with 1st generation prodution). I dont think I miss shifts because it happens even with my foot pressing the clutch all the way down to the metal, sometimes it wont even me place it into gear. I dont think it's me, my other car is also a standard and i've owned it for 6 years with no issues like this.

Its been three weeks now since my baby went in for surgery same problem I let it go until 2nd would no longer stay in . they kept telling me they needed to order new parts then they would come in and they would find something else wrong with the tranny and order more . now they are ovenighting a new transmission entirely . I am not happy about this and am glad to see its not just me . You need to take it in asap maybe its something simple that they know how to correct ....motor mount ? shift linkages ?

Glad to see i'm not the only one with this issue. BTW my motor mount have been recalled 2 weeks ago and were replaced. Also, I already made an appointment to have my transmission checked tomorrow. I'm really going to complain why i'm having transmission problems at only 5,000k. I've read other posts (i cant remmember where) related to this and another possibility could be a problem with the synchronizers.

If this is a common problem then I'm really lucky, 18k and no grinding whatsoever. I will admit, 2-3 was tricky at first but once I got the hang of it, I've never had a problem since. It's easy to hit the gate (where it won't go in at all) if you're not paying attention. The impression I have of this tranny is it's tough. So, imo, if people are having bad synchros already (I'm not singling you out) then either there's was a defect, assembly problem, or some people are just really poor drivers.

I'm not saying I never had 3rd grind, I did once and it was because I ****** up, not the tranny. Another thing you can try is adjusting your seat, believe me, it makes a huge difference.

I had to cancel my appointment at the dealer due to work, however, i sort of changed my driving habbit, i realized that this engine produces quite a lot of torque when revving; having said that i know for sure it bends and shifts in the engine bay, and with this CABLE driven shifter, i'm guessing that somehow the gear doesnt go fully into place unless i let the engine settle back into it's correct position before i move the gear shifter. I never had this problem with my other car(Barvarian Car:)) since the shifter is directly connected to the transmission which drives the rear wheels.
It's something i had to get used to and so far it's been 3 days I've been driving normal and semi-aggressively and i havent had any grinding problems anymore.
Now, all i need is learn how to drive this beast the way it was meant :) I plan to totally finish these OEM tires for a set of Pirelli Pzero Neros.

my second gear grinded pretty bad one time and then occassionally started popping out of gear after that. they replaced the 2 and 3rd gear because they said some damage was caused. all warrantied since it was under 12k miles. works fine now after 18 DAYS OF WAITING FOR PARTS AND INSTALLATION.

Its been 23 days for me still waiting they are going to replace the whole transmission . Glad I got that extended warranty .

Glad you got the hang of it!(thumb).

my throw out bearing is loud as hell when the tranny warms up...anyone else? the tech said its no uncommon to hear this and the rx-8's are even louder!!!! theres no question when my foot is on the clutch or when its off.
