hey, my msp is making this clicking sound as if the cv axle is torn but took the axle out and it looks fine. it clicks while im driving or turning. its coming from the front driver side. please help if u know whats goin on. thanks.

Yeah when cj joints or half-shafts go bad they click. I know, mine was just doing the same thing, and the boot was fine too. Just change it, or rebuild it.

Never had it on my MSP but I had a 626 which is same standard Protege CV and the same result, changed out and all good.

so that kind of clicking isn't from a bad abs sensor or anything...silly mechanic... i've been having the same thing too and was wondering what it was...is this something easy to change out or rebuild?

I mean I know how to rebuild them, I think its easy. However, I have been doing them for years. I would just buy a new one. I go to Advance Auto Parts cuz When I bought a whole new one they were the cheapest, I think its was only like $67. Its easy to change, its just time consuming.

I would replace the axles and the wheel bearings. Luckily you don't need the larger 24mm MSP axles, they are much more expensive and harder to find.

thanks guys. guess i'll have to find a msp axle. theyre so hard to find. lmk if u guys know anyone selling the driver side axle.

I have the exact same problem. My CV boots started leaking a long while back, not torn, but leaking around the edges and spraying axles grease all over. I cleaned up the grease and put new clamps on them, but eventually noticed a clicking when first getting the car moving in the morning. Now it's clicking more and more often. And if I do a full lock turn, it sounds kind of like a playing card in bicycle spokes.

I am fairly certain we do not need the Mazdaspeed axles. The only place I know that carries them is Protege Garage and they are $700.

The OEM left half shaft on Montgomery Mazda's site isn't too bad at $108. However the right appears to be $358 which is simply crazy.

I don't really want to put on a cheap axle, but these prices are kind of nuts. Does anyone have any positive experiences with one of the knock-offs? Seems like there are quite a few options. RockAuto, Napa, Autozone, OReilly, and Advanced. All around $70 each.

I just don't want to go through that work and then have to do it again.

im thinking ur best off looking for a used one. i picked one up for bout $90 bucks on ebay. they're pretty hard to find but its better than a knock-off set.

Yeah, it would be a tough call. What will last longer, a used one or knock-off? I know mine only lasted 70k miles due to the AZ heat and dry air ruining the boots. I know there are some part outs going on, but it's anyone's guess how long they will last.

There are some rebuild kits too, but I've always heard new ones are cheaper than rebuilding them. I wish OEM wasn't so overpriced.

Yeah if you built a MSP (or any car for that matter) by going into the dealership and purchasing all the parts, you'd probably be spending at least a couple of million

lol yeah mazda rapes people i need a new axle too. You could try rock auto it looks kinda sketch though. Might have to resort to the stealership
