MSP lights on P5

OK, I searched all over for this and couldn't get a definite answer. Without discussing whether it's actually an upgrade or not, what kind of rewiring has to be done to make this change. I've got no problem cutting and splicing, and I've figured out which wire is which, but my concern is going from the four bulbs always on (w/high beams) to the 2 dual filament bulbs. I assume if I just cut and splice, the H4s will burn both filaments when the high beams are on. Is there a wiring fix, or do I need a sedan headlight stalk? Or is that really a problem? Any help is appreciated, especially if it's been done before.

Thanks

EDIT: Look at my last post for a wiring diagram. Also, keywords: headlight headlights protege5 pro5 , since I couldn't find this damn thread in a search my damn self!

EDIT (10/7/04): Added diagram for installing P5 lights on a MSP.

sedan lights dont look nearly as good as stock p5 lights

Man, this is why I said without discussing it, whatever, I like the pattern of the sedan lights. My wife has an ES and her pattern looks better TO ME. Errr, the pattern of her lights, :D Anyway I've already got a set of MSP lights on the way, so if it's possible I'm gonna try it. Then I'll post pics and everybody'll be jealous, lol.

Maybe he wants to get rid of the bumper light and still be legal? Whatever it is, its a good question.

i got rid of my bumper lights and kept the p5 headlights.

i dont see what the difference is, i could have replaced mine with a 02 mp3 bumper and got the same results. instead i just shaved my bumper. neither the 02 p5 or the first mp3 had side markers on the fender and the mp3 did not have them on the bumper. while maybe not completly legal i would bet that a cop would never be able to tell me that it was ( unless he owned one)

good luck! i know this can be done.... i just can't really explain it over the internet! im a hands on kind of guy!:D

So have you got the light stalk from hat MSP? I thought I had the wiring figured, but I forgot about the dual filament deal. Or is it possible with the P5 stalk and some creative wiring at the harness? Hell, I'll call you, but I don't think I can drive to Cali. :)

Pm me if you need to get rid of the p5 lights, i would glady take them off your hands.

s***, man, this is my third try to get any kind of freaking lights. I ain't promisin' nothin' 'til I gets some lights installed on the car. :D

aesthetics and actual performance are two unrelated things

the P5 lights LOOK better, but actually perform worse than the sedan's headlights... the P5 lights have a very lazy cut off in the beam pattern and causes back glare in bad weather situations... the sedan's headlights follow the European beam pattern specification and have a VERY sharp cut off... this means visibility is good at all times

Thanks Edwin, I thought I remembered you saying that over at pclub, but I couldn't find it again. Now if I can just find an answer to the wiring question.....

Thats what I was thinkin'!

Hey Collie you still want me to come over and help you bake up some delicious headlights. MMMMM....tasty!

Edwin, do you know what wiring change needs to be made. As far as I can tell all 3rd gens use the same light switch, so obviously the difference is in the wiring. I just need to know where to make the change to keep both filaments from lighting on high beams.

Thanks,
James T
