Msp Ecu...

2003 MSP
I recieved one from a member on the forum, but the packaging was not very good. There was some minor damage to the plastic portion where it plugs in. Can I just plug this into another MSP to see if it works correctly/

I purchased it to use in my turbo project, that's why I can't just plug it into my car. It's a NA Pro5

I've attached photos. They are 1024x768. I also have a picture of the sticker. Is there a way to verify this is a MSP ECU?

the plastic housing is almost useless as the harness screws into the connection points. as far as trying to verify it being an MSP ECU based off of the sticker....did you try reading the sticker? Big clue on it.

yes, i know it says "MSP" but Mazda never used that as an official name for the Mazdaspeed Protege. They called it the Protege MPS (Mazda Performance Series).

the protege was never technically called that in the states...they didnt really start using MPS until the new generation of mazdaspeed vehicles....dont listen to that protegeric kid...

you can use a msp ecu in n/a to verify that it will run a car i believe.

but it will cause the car to run like poo (retarded timing and extra fuel)

yes, when it senses boost the car will dump fuel. if you are not boosting (creating positive manifold pressure) than it will do exactly what your current ECU does. i dont think they are exactly the same fuel and timing map but it should run fine, the msp might have less aggressive timing, someone who knows the diff should pipe in. i dont think the MSP ecu even reads boost, it just knows what to do about the increased reading from the MAF(ie pump more fuel) when you go into boost. its the same MAF.
