MSP aimed at the youth market?

(mspo) All the magazine and web articles I'm reading are bugging me. They keep saying the msp is "aimed squarely at the youth market". I think it's one of the hottest new cars to come out in a long time. I'm 43 and I'm dyin' for mine to arrive, but I ain't no "youth market". Is there any other old farts like me waiting for this car or are all the articles right???(scratch)

Just because a car is directed towards the youth market doesn't mean its only for youth's. Of course that Mazdaspeed is directed for younger people, i talked to a few of the Mazda people at HIN in Orlando and they told me the same thing. That is why they are sponsoring car shows and stuff like that because they are trying to make an impact with the youth market because it seems Honda is on top of that right now. If Mazda keeps up what they are doing they may take over though.

Hey Dpmsp,
Glad to hear that you are still young at heart! Considering most guys over forty aren't interested in such a wonderful driving experience. In fact you're just the demographic we need to back up our weak youthful opinions that don't matter to large corps.
Enjoy your MSP
Cheers

I'm 28, and depending on who you ask, I might be an old fart. I sometimes feel like one when I see "I can't wait to get my license!":).

I guess Mazda hopes young people will lust after the Mazdaspeed Protege, even if they can't afford it. Then they can sell 'em Mazdaspeed decals and exhausts for their hand-me-down Proteges and other models. Just look at the kids...err..."youth market" that really want a Celica but are stuck in a Corrola that they have "customized" with TRD decals.

I am 34 I suffered through high school and University with an old Rennault, and I think all youth should start and suffer with a junker like many of us did.

I can't wait to get mine, have always wanted a turbo car and although there are others I have really fallen in love with the styling of the mazdaspeed.

Ok.
So Mazda got me at a right time. I fit in the youth market and i'm looking for a sporty sports sedan. But, i'm glad that they offer such a car that fits me. Got good looks, performance and a 'more than enough' stereo. I'm :)

Like you, I'm 43 and anxiously awaiting an msp. Forget the articles or perhaps we should just know that that's Mazda's target. We're just not the bullseye.

Like the president of Mazda said, "Everyone wants a car aimed at the youth that is stylish and fun to drive, but not everyone wants to own a car aimed at an older generation."

The protege5 was aimed at people around the age of 30, maybe I'm more mature than I think, heh.

i have seen 16 year olds in p5s and 60 year olds in p5, here in south florida. look at the matrix/vibe. i think they also were designed for "youth market" but 90% of people that i see driving them are over 45/50. i have seen the toyota scion bbx on saturday at the miami auto show and i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of 40 something found them cool.

btw, they displayed an orange mazdaspeed pro as well as a grey mazda 6 with clear taillights. you could sit in the pro but not in the 6. and since the lights were altezza type it tells me that it was an european or prototype car b/c i read somewhere that for NA, the 6 will have regular red lights. anyway, the msp was very nice with a clean turbo setup and the turbo was located lower in the engine bay then i have seen with some other aftermarket turbo setups. also, the paint was mettalic, it had lots of orange "sparkles" in it. it looks way nice than the rare 96 orange mustang that you might have seen. the mustang is flat orange like yellow or red but the pro is metallic. i would say everybody who walked by the display stopped by to check out the car.

oh yes, talked to the mazda representatives and they said they are doing a MAZDASPEED PROTEGE5 but no ETA. about the turbo kit, they are not planning one but if the individual dealers decide to sell and install the turbo on other cars then the complete factory warantee WILL REMAIN on those cars. sorry for taking this kinda off-topic

Reminds me...

of what Lee Iacoca was once quoted. He was asked what market the Chrysler Imperial was aimed at and his reply was "55 and dead".
I'm 56 and a MSP dosen't quite fit our lifestyle right now, but the loaded '03 P5 we took delivery of on Saturday does just fine. Thanks to Mazda for it's "Zoom Zoom" and "youthful" direction. I'll be busy tweakin' the '97 Civic EX coupe I just "inherited" from my wife to fit my driving style. Jim

According to official Mazda info, the target market is between 25 and 35...

And a little elf told me that.
