Mp3 lowering info?

Blue MP3
Ok, here is my situation. I am looking to drop my car, but I have a few questions first. I have heard a few different things about what the best way is. this is going out to all that are lowered.

OK - I at first wanted to go with coil-overs (Ground Control) because I feel as if there is much more play room you can slam it for shows, but yet raise for daily driving.. That is good and all but I dont want to deal with chamber kits, alignment problems, popping, premature tire wear etc. So I decide to look for lowering springs, I was looking at two of the top brands of course. H&R and Eibach. The problem with the springs are I want a bit more drop then the 1.5 or so I have heard a lot about the SPOOL springs.. (Nothing but good of course. Go Terry! ) I have the Auto Exe lower lip spoiler waiting for the install. I was not sure if the spool springs and the lower lip spoiler would be too low being 2 and all.

So far I am leaning towards the Eibach pro-kit, I wanted my tires to be tucked but If they are not I will just have to deal with that and realize that I at least have a good set of springs under me.

Here are my questions:
1: If I go with springs what is your opinion of the best set? And why?
2: If decide to get coil-overs would I have alignment problem w/o a chamber kit? Popping?
3: If anyone out there has the Auto Exe lower lip installed and has their Mp3 lowered can you post pics and give info on clearances and how many inches dropped?
4: What advice can you give regarding lowering my car in general?

Please keep in mind that I am trying to lower my car and have it feel, and run as good if not better than stock. I am also on a budget or else I would just go with the JIC system.
Oh, and any pics are welcome.

In advance, thanks to everyone willing to help out and reply.

i am watching this thread because i am interested in the answers... but i do not have any input; sorry...

Well, I guess you and i will just wait ..... and wait .... and wait ....and wait .....and well you get the point. =)

gjmoreo,
I, like you wanted a good drop on my MP3. The GCs seemed like they had some issues with noise, and the Eibachs/H&Rs didn't drop it enough for my liking. Then I saw pics of spoolinmp3's ride with the springs he sourced for us and his great review of them. Remember, he mentioned he had tried GCs, and I believe Eibachs and didn't like them, and then found these and decided to carry them.

I have a set of SPOOL springs sitting in my apartment. They get installed this Saturday. I don't have the lip but was curious about that too, because I might want the lip some day. I'll definitely have my opinions posted here on Sunday :D. I can't wait. I always thought the MP3 was just a bit too high. I think 2" is going to be tha s***.

i have the spool springs in my room also, hopefully this week i will install them. i might wait till next week if i can autox this weekend. I heard nothing but great things about thte spools thats why i got them. With the front lip 2" drop will be close to the ground.

Nice response ..... see this is what I'm talking about!

DooMer_MP3, I appreciate your input, good looking out.
be sure to let us know how the SPOOL springs look / feel.

Any others ............... (please) .................

what about the sprint springs they too give a 2" drop to all four sides, also the gold line springs give a 1.75" drop to all four sides.Does anybody have theses set of springs. I know the gold lines sell for about $135.00 and the sprint you can get from nopi for about $175.00, how do theses springs compare to the spool or eibach?

Maybe I can help

I have the GC coil overs, I like the fact that you can lower and raise them. I have had them for about a year and a half now. The only time you will need an alignment is after the install, since3 my first alignment, I have been from Alabama, to Georgia, to Cali, to North Carolina. No prblems with the springs. I would say that if you were not going to get these I would go with the spool lowering springs, because you can't go wrong with spool. Here are some pics of my ride with the GC.

Also take into consideration that the initial install will drop the car.

Ground Controls are nice , and you end up with a good looking car , but you also void your waranty( I am 99% sure) on your shocks , Why .. look in the pic above and right apove the body of the shock where the piston goes in .. there was a metal peace that was there which had to be removed inorder for the pearch to be installed , ... This modification to your shocks will (99% sure mind you) void your shock waranty ....
How do I know I used to have Weapon R coil overs and did the install on my protege myself , so I know what the car rides like (CRAP) and the install process (EASY) ..

I would suggest going with the lowering springs , cause then you won't have fitment issues ... the spring fits in the upper pearch like stock and the car drops perfect and you get a great ride overall. Keep in mind also that the newer Protege's seem to drop lower than the older models. I am figureing maybe to lower fender sheet metal ... you can see pics of my protege when I had my coils here .

Get the springs ,, lowest drop you can find and install them , or go all out and get the full coilovers .. that way you will have shocks that can actually handle the stiffer coils ..

--------
Also for the guy with the mp3 , your camber won't change (by much) when lowering and raising the car , but your toe will change ,, when you raise and lower it changes ..

actually lowering your car voids your warranty on all suspension parts... 100% possitive on that one...

actually, i will have to take back the 100% sure part.... you can never trust what the Stealership tells you... so i will make that 99% sure...

;)

Awesome input guys!!! I am so torn right now .... I want either the SPOOLS or the GC's ........ I have an oppurtunity to buy them both ...... My main question now is .... WILL THE AUTOEXE LIP SCRAPE TOO MUCH OR ALL THE TIME WITH A 2" SPOOL DROP???

Do you guys think I would have enough room???
I dont want to scrape when I dip or bounce a little ....
THANX!!

like i said before, i do not have any input on this (yet) but i am very interested in the answers since i too will be getting the AutoEXE lip and was also planning on going with the Spool Springs...

gjmoreo, have you seen pictures of gyrospeed's MSP?
he has the autoexe lip on w/o lower. IF you have, imagine his car with 2" lower to the ground. I can asure you you'll have AT LEAST 3" ground clearance. Which means, you'll need to becareful with uneven pavements, cracks and speed bumps. It really depends on how you drop into a manhole or pothole that it will scrap. But i'm pretty sure that it won't scrap for most city roads/highways.
Just becareful going up driveways, down driveways, speed bumps and ruts.
