More on the clunk...

I just went to my dealer to ask the mechanic about the clunking noise. I specifically asked him if he could talk to anybody about this issue because Mazda Customer Service sucks. Actually, he was the one that told me Mazda Customer Service sucks, and that he'd talk to some technicians in Shaumberg, IL about this and try to get a good tech bulletin out. He also added that he thinks the bushings are still the problems because once they wear away the bar flexes a lot more and ruins the end-links. Sound like he knows what hes talking about? Well, we'll soon here on Monday if his tech buddies found anything out.

count me interested

Even if no one else cares, keep me posted as to what can be done... I don't want to go into any mechanics garage underinformed if I can help it, and I certainly don't want to put up with any noise/damage that could be helped under warranty.

The clunking is really getting on my nerves. I love my car, but it sounds like a 1973 AMC Pacer going over bumps...or just down the road. I am very interested in getting to the bottom of this and my dealer is taking the company line that "it's a hi-performance vehicle, they do that". Hell, I've driven a full-race Datsun 510 and it didn't sound like this.

Bob

P.S. Anybody got a CD player that skips on bumps. Mine never did but NOW it does!

the company line

I wonder if they'll advertise the kthunk as a feature in the '03 Mazdaspeed. I can see/hear it now...

THE NEW 2003 MADZASPEED PROTEGE! YOU'LL KNOW IT'S ALL BUSINESS FROM THE HOWL OF THE TURBO RIGHT DOWN TO THE SOUND OF A LEATHER MALLET SMACKING YOUR REAR AXLE EVERY TIME YOU GO OVER A ROAD SEAM. YES, NOTHING SAYS PERFORMANCE LIKE A BIG THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM SOMEWHERE NEAR THE TRUNK!
(sorry, kthunk not available on Protege 5s this year)

You know, Oscar Mayer has a name for such company wagon-circling. C'mon, Mazda, just fix the kthunk!
