More MSP Autox Movies.....

Mazdaspeed wins AGAIN. :)

Yep, won the STX class again and was about 5th fastest overall. I was the fastest overall on non-race tires by at least a second or two though so that's pretty cool. (Really love stomping the Type R's and WRX's. What even made it better was that they were running on autox tires and I'm still running the crappy stock 040's! Zoom Zoom!)

Go to

And click on the aug 17th event. MSP pics and vids are alphabetical in the list.

Movie #1 (bad): I was all out of whack on the way to the finish. Could not get the back end to come out at around 50mph, started to push, then punted some cones. Oops.

Movie#2 (good) My best run of the day.

Enjoy!

:D The agility that our MSP's have is still so impressive...not to mention your driving skills...great run!!! :D

You're right about the 040's. They really are not all that bad. In street tires, you can get more grip for less money though. Just bought a set of the KumhoMX's since my 040's are bald at 17,000 miles. Hoping to make it to the next autox on the 24th before mounting the new sneakers though.

I pushed the bridgestones a little too hard yesterday, and they only broke a little bit. It was enough for me to have to correct coming out of a turn and into the straight, tho. We had a double lapper (well...2 1/2) yesterday. FTD was 67.3 by a z06 on ecstas. My fastest was a 76.2 + 1...so 78.2. It was my first race out of novice and I placed third of four in DSP. If I'd run that 76.2 w/o the cone I would have taken second...damn chicane. :D

What the heck are you running to be in STX??? They put me in DSP thanks to the INJEN, but until I get stickier rubber I don't think I'll win it...we have an auto is300 that wipes the floor in DSP.

Servoeyes,
With some racing rubber on your car, that IS300 should not stand a chance. Well, unless it is owned by TRD or something and there is suspension work under it that I have not seen before.

I'm actually running my MSP bone stock. Not a single mod. I signed up for STX at the beginning of the season because I figured I'd be running downpipes, intake, whatever, by now (unfortunately no cash for car parts this summer) and did not want to change classes 1/2 way through the season as I added parts (I like to compete for class winner of the season so try to stay in the same class for the year). Also knew that I could not afford autox tires this year and figured I'd have a better chance at running against the modded WRX's and Type r's on street tires then I would against them on racing rubber. But so far, I've been beating them on both so I guess it would not have mattered. :)

Damn...see...in DSP I lost to a Nissan 240 an older BMW...like 60s era. Both were on race rubber. My best time was actually faster than the beemer, except for that damn cone! That 240 has an ass ton of suspension mods, apparently, though...and only a CAI. He ran ~73.5. No way I was gonna catch him...maybe I'm just still inexperienced. The IS300 runs race rubber and the driver was last year's driver of the year for the club.

You could take him!! Knock that IS300 out of the top spot! Your car is capable...

You'll see as you become more familiar with your car, you'll get better and better. I let the 2002 SCCA NAtional Champion in SSC drive my MSP at an event 2 months ago and he could not beat me! :) And I'm no pro driver. Just goes to show that familarity with the car will make a big difference in your times. I had about 12,000 miles clocked on the MSP at that time.

Not to thread jack, but Servo - you went to the CART autox this weekend? 1 min plus for the FTD...nice long track...I wanted to go, but saturday I had work to do and Sunday was my girls and mine anniversary. Anyway, was there a S2000 there (red)? He's a buddy of mine who said he was going...he can handle the thing nice and it's bone stock. Do you have any vids of the track? or know anyone who does? I'd love to see how they laid it out.

I'm sure I'll be seeing you at one of the auto-xs....I plan to go to the next one in Sept. We should make plans to meet up.
Later,
Jesse

Awesome - I love hearing about the MSP kicking the butt of more expensive cars. I wish the rules would account for race rubber vs street rubber -- that's like the single most important mod you can make for auto-xing and yet it doesn't move you to a different class. It just bugs me that if I put different seats in the car I move up a class but if I put better racing rubber on I stay where I'm at. Seems backwards.

Anyway, there's an auto-x at Miller Park this coming weekend for you Wisconsinites. See you there!

Thanks for the comps everyone!

I know there's probably not many of you guys near Northeast PA but we do have another event this coming Sunday the 24th if anyone is interested.

You should still be able to run STX, that's what that class is for. Lightly modded cars(such as yours) on street tires. Your intake should not move you to DSP unless that's where you want to run.

a good reference if you don't have an SCCA rulebook is www.moutons.org it has all of the SCCA car class listings and I believe it also has the rules for street touring (STS) and street touring extreme (STX)
