modify MSP 3.5 exhaust on protege 5

Hey has anyone done this yet. I was wondering if the oval shap will fit inside the hole on the rear bumper on the protege 5. Basically i mean is the tip wider than the hole on the bumper. =)

Yeah i've seen the pictures too, but they were all for the 2003 round tip one i believe. I didnt see the oval tip one yet thats y im asking =).

but i think the 03 and 03.5 use the same bumper.. right? so it technically it should fit?

actually...the 03.5 MSP has a different lip, therefore it's not the same as the 03 lip..so it's different

i see.. but the lip goes over the stock bumper, correct? so there's no way it could extend more room for a bigger tip?

i don't think it would fit. my racing beat has a less of an extreme oval shape to it and it pretty much fills the diameter of the notch in the bumper.

did you buy/are you buying a muffler from an 03.5 msp? why not just buy an aftermarket system or the mazdaspeed axle back?

Oh really... ouch anyone else know...
I don't really like the mazdaspeed sport exhaust because i like it rather quiet but i want the look... thats y i chose the MSP ones...

I got two pictures here. Since i know that the 2003 tip will fit under the notch on the protege 5 bumper anyone care to compare the diameter on the 2003 and 2003.5 tip. side to side i mean not from top to bottom.

MSP exhaust on my P5, you have to cut and reweld the tip, as the p5 is some 5" shorter in the rear.. use a stainless weld so the you dont get rust on the exhaust, always looks good.. all fits good, no problems

Hehe i understand that you have to cut and weld it plus the tip on the MSP 2003 exhaust will fill into the notch. But i was wondering if the tip from the MSP 2003.5 exhaust will fit under the notch =)

Just had the tip shortened on the 03.5 MSP exhaust I purchased. Hoping to install it in my P5 this weekend. I'll let you know how it fits.

Ya know, while it really does look good in general, there still is a part of me that wants to grab a sabre saw and trim the rear skirt to follow the tip, LOL. But you had me going for a while Ken, where I really had my doubts if it would fit.
