Mod Log.

ms3
Ok. i figured i would time my ms3 at 60-100mph in 2 different gears with no mods (i do have awr mount but i dont think it counts) then with each mod i install i will do the same acceleration test to see real life results.

I have chosen to use 4th and 6th gears cos it just seemed good to me.

So tonight i got on my private air strip (i am well rich) and did my stock run.
I used my camera to do the movie clip then when i got home i used a stop watch to time the vid.

http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w76/meha11/

4th 60-100 = 8.2 seconds
6th 60-100 = 13 seconds

before you all tell me how inaccurate my testing is, i dont really give a s***, the air strip was flat, little wind and about 70*F outside there was 2 of us in the car with tank of gas.
I figure if these mods make a considerable difference then the crudity of my test will be insignificant.

Today I got the TMIC from the good folks at Protege Garage so I will install it soon and do another run.

If anyone feels the need to post their own findings and opinions about their own mods then thats cool with me.

Oh yeh, sorry about the background music, i hope no one kills themselves after watching.

private airstrip because your rich? Please man, dont come in here and start bragging your bulls***.

if i told you i owned the moon would you believe that too?

I look forward to further testing. Could you do just the CAI first though? We'd all prob do that before the IC. You being a high roller and all. :)

Needy aren't I?

well the cia shipped yesterday, so i dont have it yet, i wanted to install the tmic tonight but i also wanted to fix it up a bit first. the plate around the cooler is there for the ducting on the underside of the hood to seal against. it looks like it was installed by a 3 year old, they used zinc bolts and ss nuts which will cause corrosion and they cut it out of flat plate with a jig saw, none of the cuts are straight and there is clearence issues with the welds at the corners. so i may fix that stuff first.

I am hoping some one who modified their stock air box will post 60-100 times so we can see if it made any difference.

It's a shame you pay money for a performance part only to have to fix it before you install it.

well, if it gives the 20 extra ponies like it is supposed to then I don’t mind for the price. There was another intercooler for sale somewhere for about $1000 so to save $450 I don’t mind breaking out the file.

If that happened to me, I'd be getting my money back or challenging the credit card charge. It's good to know ahead of time to stay away from Protege Garage, I guess.

what is that over there? a conclusion!? OMG let me jump there as fast as I can!!!!!

protegegarage has been known to put out quality parts, here you have one person's opinion and you are writing them off? I would do a little research to other members that have this TMIC before you go jumping to the conclusion that they have shoddy worksmanship

I know some companies were selling their prototype models for reduced prices. This may be one of those. I saw one on ebay about a week ago. Maybe the production piece is better. Still, even if the gain is 40hp, I want a part as nice as the stock one I am removing. Maybe nicer.

i agree, but i know Nutari has the same FMIC and I havent seen any complaints from him (granted, hes a rep for protegegarage haha). I am just cautioning that you should do your research before you cross something off completely. If one bad review turns you off, then you must not have been listening to anybody when u bought the speed3.

i really dont think protege garage makes them do they? i thought they just sell them. If that is correct then its not their fault. i am not and was not stirring s***. the pics speak for themselves, i will change the hardware and file the outside plate a bit until I think it looks good, no big deal. the core looks to be well made, just the outer plate has sloppy workmanship.

So one more time just incase, have made an observation on a product I bought and shared it with you all, thats it, lets not get out of hand and start calling for peoples heads.

(boobs) to lighten the tone.

For the record... I wasn't aiming any comments in any one direction. Just commenting on what was posted. I'd definately give Protege Garage a fair shake and order from them if they had something I wanted. I didn't want to give off the idea that I had wrote them off.

hey i wasnt trying to start s*** with anybody... just trying to make sure that one persons opinion didnt start being taken as fact. No such thing as voice tone when you're typing i guess huh?

Duct tape ftw? I'm disappointed to see the plate isn't fabbed as well as it could be. Maybe that's the reason for the cost vs other ICs?

I look forward to your ongoing tests and am glad you're taking the initiative to give all us other MS3 owners feedback on aftermarket parts.

I bet if you do the CAI first SwampAss will do something nice for you!!!

Look, if you have to use tools to work on the part before you install it, it's POS workmanship - plain and simple. Yeah, performance is most important, but fitment is ALSO very important.

I don't know if Protege Garage makes them either, and from what I can tell, the transmission mount looks excellent. The looks of the TMIC don't bother me, what bothers me is the possible corrosion and the fitment issues.

If I wanted to fix stuff after I bought it, I'd be typing this on a PC. I like a FINISHED product, not a 'mostly' finished product. But that's just me...

i agree... you obviously are not getting what I am saying. I don't doubt meha11 that he had to work on his TMIC before installing it, but i am saying that this is only one person. I KNOW that he not is the only one who has purchased said intercooler. All I am saying is if you are considering buying this piece, do more research before you immediately go for the more expensive one and write-off protege garage.
