Mini 2002 Mazda protg5 project

I work at a dealership and they took in this car and were about to wholesale this wonderful looking yellow Mazda Protg5. I thought to myself hmmm that might be a good little project for me to throw my time and him money into. I also had my head that it's yellow and that's pretty bad ass looking on the road. I took a gamble on it and bought this car for $663.75 knowing it didn't run. What I did know was that it is an automatic :(, the odometer reads 173K for miles on it and it does have a previous salvage title. I pretty much figured I was going to part it out, but then I began thinking from maybe there some small reason that it's not wanting to turn over. That day I changed wires, plugs and coil packs for $101.00, when I went to turn the key it started right up. I honestly leaped for joy. LOL It runs like a champ despite the fact that I either need to get new tires or just rebalance the old ones.

I don't plan on doing much to this car although it does have quite a bit rust, the front bumper doesn't fit right to broken plastic, one of the rear taillights broken, needs new front wheel well plastic, and also the headers need to be tightened a bit.

I plan on updating this thread as I go through and fix things. It may take me a while considering I'm going to college so therefore I want to college budget although I do work.

nissan dealer, nice, i would have picked up that sentra beside it on first pic. i had one great little car, got wrecked though. anyway, good project car. clean up the rust and get it looking good and you have a nice cheap car.

There's actually little frame dust which is surprising. I'm just going to grind the body rust down a throw some plasti dip over it.

I ran into a bit of a problem after i changed the plugs, wires and coils packs. I didn't not clear the code but i did drive it a while and then the check engine light started blinking checked the codes it came out as EGR as well as misfire cylinder 3. Not sure what I should do but tonight im going to clean out the EGR and then reset the codes.

To day I did a coolant flush last night i could not get the screws off so if anybody has any trick let me know. I did use WD40 as well as another aerosol can I can not remember the name of..
