i love my MSP really i do. but i have ALWAYS wanted a WRX and i didnt get one because they were all 19-22k USED so i was like fook dat and i bought my MSP for 15k had it for about 6 months and i LOVE it. but now the dealer has a 2002 wrx with 45k miles on it for 15k

Sucks as much as i Love my MSP everytime i see a WRX drive by me i think about man maybe i should have just waited and bought that instead. i cant fight the feeling so im gonna check it out.

Im going to the dealer tomorrow to see what we can work out. ill let you know what happens. im gonna test drive it and see how it feels, and see what kind of deals they can cut me

more tomorrow guys later

i wouldnt buy a wrx with 50k miles on it, unless you can get some kind of full warranty for 100k miles, because no doubt it has been beaten on, and probably won't last much longer without any problems.

have you driven a wrx or just admired them? they arent that great, especially compared to your msp

please reconsider! :p

The one Im getting is going for $22045 with 10 miles on it. I wouldn't buy a used one, who knows what kind of treatment it received :D.

You think so??? I've driven the WRX, I thought it was awesome. I've never driven an MSP though, help me out, for almost the same price which one would you get

Yea just kinda admired them from afar. tomorrow will be my first time behind the wheel of one. who knows i might change my mind.

and the car has until 60k till the warranty is gone

you may not be as impressed as you think, they are fast, but compared to the mazda is't not as nimble, it feels less connected and more brutelike (this is from experience, i looked at wrx's when i got my car, and im happy with my choise)

I have to agree with zmepro. One of my co-workers has a WRX, and I wasn't blown away by it. The power was good (and at least the power delivery was smooth and progressive), but it didn't pull as hard as I expected it to. Flat torque curves can be deceiving, and that might explain my seat-of-the-pants observation. It was still quick, don't get me wrong.
The handling was good, but no substitute for the MSP. Just like he said, less connected.
I sure wouldn't give up an MSP for a WRX with that many miles on it. Who knows if the turbo was properly idled down? (My 323 GTX turbo s*** the bed at 49,890 miles...whew, got it warrantied) Not to mention that the WRX is considerably more complicated because of the AWD. There are a lot of places for something to go wrong, and that is a lot of the reason I turned down my co-workers offer to sell me the car at a good price before I purchased my MSP. I didn't want a used one. (One of my other co-workers bought it though, so I still get to see it parked next to my MSP at work, lol.)
I'd think long and hard about it. At least you know what you're getting with the MSP.

I tried both cars out, my Protege LX 02 against a WRX 02. I have to say, I've always been attracted to the WRX until I drove one...

My mazda rides smoother and is a lot more responsive to me than the WRX was. That's just how it felt to me though. It's all about you. You may like the WRX handling better.

And btw, I got my car from Hertz Rental Corp. About $8k with 27k miles on it and a 4 year warranty. You might consider reworking that deal they wanna give you on the WRX.

id say you have to at least TEST the msp, i dont know how you could have not even considered it.:D

Well, i didn't consider it because of about 100 people saying their engines have blown up or what not. It seems like the MSP is not kind to any type of Mods. But then again I do want a car I can keep stock :D . Ill go try it out, even better I can still retain my Mintblue front and just throw it on the MSP :D .

it is very adaptable to mods, you just have to be smart about it
there are many things that this car can do.
many cases of blown motors have invlved factors that should have been considered.
heavy boostin while in 4/5 gear with a bunch of weight
mods like ud pullies, possible problems
people running high boost/no supporting mods
unsafe boost/FCD combos in cold weather
and then you also have to consider that other stories about blown motors are not gonna publicly post that they were at 13psi when there engine blew, they dont want MNOA to see it.

this is a great vehicle for the money, and if you tune it right and upgrade the places were mazda had shortcomings, you find out why we all love our speeds so much:D

Corksport just finished their ECU tuning. Now we can mod away.
No problems anymore, you just need to spend the cash to do it right.

First post -- w00t!

Registered because we are conteplating a MSP for my GF.

Saw this thread.

Just so happens I own a WRX.

It is a totally different beast than your MSP. However, AWD is a huge benefit, especially if you see lots of non-sunny days. Expect annoying turbo lag in stock form, but a big kick in the pants when it gets going. Stock tires are not so great for hardcore driving and they howl a lot when carving corners. However, teh WRX responds VERY well to modification, and is still reliable, if the mods are done correctly (i.e don't put on an MBC and set it at 19 psi)

[OT]What is the common cost for insurance on an MSP assuming a clean record? What can you get then for at a dealer?[/OT]
