Messy weather NY - Good CX-9

:
SOLD 2002 Protege5; Current 2008 CX-9 Grand Touring
So the weather here in NY was a bit messy today. There was snow, sleet, slick roads, accidents, terrible traffic, etc.

I have to say that my CX-9 faired well through it all. Traction was good and all the systems worked as needed.

There were so many accidents related to the ice. There was one house at the bottom of a hill, facing up that hill. There were a few trucks and cars including a gray CX-9 diagonal on the sidewalk partially in the driveway of the house with their hazards on. I hope that they were there to protect the house just in case a car wasn't able to stop coming down the hill rather than being cars that plowed up onto that property. When there is no traction to be had, it doesn't matter what you drive.

We've been getting nothing but snow here in Chicago (45 of the last 75 days!!!) so my CX-9 has been getting quite a workout. With the snow tires, it's been great.

Yesterday, there was a nice flat, wide open stretch of snow packed road. From the stop light, I floored it. I could VERY clearly feel the traction / stability control keeping everything pointed straight ahead. It just took off REALLY quickly.

The only time I've been able to mess with it is starting uphill on ice. If I push it too hard, the traction light comes on as it controls the front wheel spin and tries to put the power to the rear wheels, which are also slipping.

I have been able to have some fun with it though! I've managed to hold a nice controlled 4 wheel drift without any of the electronic nannies kicking in! All four wheels have to be sliding evenly (no one tire spinning wildly) and it has to be a smooth drift (no abrupt attitude changes). Great fun - but NOT on public roads!
