I just received the Mazdaspeed Sport Spring kit (GRMS-8M-L25) and in reading through the directions, it says to remove the bumpstop from the upper strut and keep it safe for when the vehicle is returned to stock. It does not mention replacing it with anything.

Just curious what the opinion on this step is? Does the strut have some further bumpstop built-inside or is this going to expose my struts to potentially valve-damaging bottoming events?

I do not have the answer to that. but I recall Tein asking me to remove some fractional amount of material from the stock bumps on the lowered springs. I would suggest that you retain them, in place. Consider the lowering, against the heavier spring. I would think you would be fine. But remove the bumpers? i wish you to call the big Mazda in the sky on this one, sounds goofy imo.

I left them in at full length. I have a pretty good feel for detecting excess bumpstop contact so I can trim them a bit if needed but I just really can justify removing them completely for now.
