Mazdaspeed Protege Build - Feels Good To Be Back

SS Split Second came in! Nice and fresh 😁

Feels like it's moving slow but it's moving along. Parts are trickling in.

Ordered a replacement panel because mine was missing the fuse cover.

Got some extras in today. OEM Kenwood Deck and some oem replacement front seat covers.

It's so cool the condition this stuff is in. They may have a little wear and tear but its like stepping into a time machine. Finding and sourcing these parts given the age and exclusivity is definitely a high for me lol

I can't wait to start building the motor. But I also don't want to rush it, I am enjoying this steady climb.

So, my awr sway bar bushings replacement got lost and the mail. A few days past and soon to find out my left side headlight replacement got lost and the mail. What the hell! Lol, it's all sorted but man I didn't know it was like that...glad my other stuff came in the mail.

Ah just finding this thread and love it just clicked watch. Super cool to see you giving the car it needed rather than a Viking Funeral on blocks. Appreciate documenting it all on here, facebook is just not the same.

I have a Turbolife FMIC, has some rust on the support bar, but can easily be sanded and re-painted. It's missing the last 90 degree pipe that goes to the throttle body. I've had this sitting in my garage for 2+ years now, It was a local Facebook Market find that I couldn't see get lost or parted for use on a different vehicle. Let me know if you might be interested, this would be a good FMIC for your project, arguably the best for the platform.

Hmmmm. Good opportunity to add heated seat pads while you replace your oem seat covers if you're into that kind of thing.

Oh man, yeah I couldn't past another one up. The itch needed to be scratched. Haha I agree, sad to see them go like that. Glad I could save this one, been eye balling the orange for awhile. Happy to be documenting.

Interested, I will definitely be getting back to you on that. I understand the preserving, I'm never selling this MSP.

That's a excellent idea! I'll be looking into that, I wouldn't mind to fancy up the speed a little.

Ah yes! My Minnesota butt can appreciate this... Though if you do, don't go cheap! Shoddy buried electronics have burnt up way to many a nice car over the years

Welp, not much done on the MSP. Got a chance to clean her up some on the inside and replaced the side mirror.

It's been hard making time for the speed. Got a 3 month old, keeps me busy lol.

Steering wheel needs some help.

Got a chance today to wash, clay bar, compound, and wax the MSP. I wanted to try and get some type of protection on the paint. Got a feel for how bad the paint is in areas as well. All in time it will be perfected. Eventually I'll make room in the garage so the MSP can park next to the MS3.

Also my AEM Wideband came in! Always happy when aftermarket parts are in the mail. Hopefully get another day like today soon and install the Wideband and ssafc.

I'd like to get a tune on her before I start accessing the motor. A part of me thinks the cylinder 1 miss fire is caused by the dude that replaced the timing belt. I feel like he didn't time it right.

I let it run for a bit, when warm it tries to die but then quickly spikes rpm returning to normal. Then tries dying again.

Got a little time today. Little by little she will be 110% perfect body inside and out. A lot work left but pumped about it.

Installed New Headlight Assembly, I kept the old ones to restore and keep for future use. Happy with the new eyes.

Welp, I found a set of AXR brackets! They are a little crusty but will be perfect to reproduce.

I'm considering getting these 3d scanned so I can get a perfect measurement on all sides. Really didn't think I would find these.

Really wish companies would give away their dims on parts they no longer manufacture.

Nice score!! Those will make the rear end nice and tight. Not sure you "NEED" to 3D scan them. I would think tape measure would be fine, as they aren't critical dimension pieces. They just need to hold the rear sway bar in place towards the bends.

Yeah I'm pretty pumped about it.

Haha, I did kinda think the 3D scan is overkill. Thought it would be nice to have a cad drawing or something from solidworks. You could just send it to the machine shop in a file already drawn up.

Nice! I bought my set of axr brackets in 2005 and they’ve been on 3 of my protégés lol. Would be dope if you reproduce these.

Oh man, I remember putting them on the MP3. Notable change.

I might have been getting ahead of myself on reproduction on them lol. I think I might get a little too pumped when it comes to MSP parts.

I would like to at the very least provide much better measurements to the forum. Nobody has to start from scratch. What I was about to have to do.

Currently cleaning the AXR brackets. I soaked them for 48hrs in evapo-rust. Still got some work left cleaning them before paint.

Whatever coating they put on these is a pain getting off. It was flaking off pretty bad, I thought it would fall off after the soak lol

I need to clean out the garage after the holidays. If I rid of any MSP parts, I'll see if you're interested since uh... you're about the only one active on this forum currently building a protege lol.
