Mazda's type of diagnostic port

What type of Diagnostic Port does Mazda equipped it's Engines with ? What I have is a 17-pin coupled with a 8-pin making it 25-pin into one (1) socket. I tried to have my engine scanned from a Car shop. The guy who attended to my request used the 17-pin combination only and not the whole socket assembly, I got code P0328 something- it's my knock sensor "knocking-out".. anyways, my concern is, did I get "everything" from the 17-pin? What does the 8-pin supposed to work for? Because I know, there could be codes which I may be missing out. Those 8-pins could be there present for something, right? and for reference, I have attached the picture of the diagnostic port, please tell me what you think. TIA(rei)

your inputs are greatly appreciated.. Thanks guys

what year is your Protege? Why won't you use the OBD under the dash? Pretty sure it's OBDII port that you have.
