"Hi, this is "Dan" from [the mazda dealer I bought my CX-9 from] I want to buy your CX-9 from you. If you're willing, I have it sold already. I'll be happy to buy it outright or give you a new one. Can you bring it buy tomorrow so that I can look at it quick and give you an offer?" ..."Not sure if you know or not, but it's very hard to find the exact CX-9 that you have".

Huh??

Is this "normal"?

Ok, yeah, so it was tricky to find my exact CX-9 when I bought it. Last one in the midwest at.that.time.

Not sure what to think. Love my CX-9. Not exactly sure "what's in it for me" for REAL. -AND- a Diesel 6 Touring/Grand Touring (wagon??) sedan with 6 speed isn't available yet. Love the 6, but must wait for the diesel and convince wife that she really doesn't need that 3rd row (the hardest part of all).

Thoughts on this dealer's desire?

It's normal for them to try to source the car that another customer wants any way possible...

They might get lucky and ask a dumb person to sell them back a car and Eff them a little on the value, plus they still make a new sale regardless because you will likely buy the replacement there..

Win Win for the dealer, and a possible meh deal for you.

Sales scam to get you on the lot. car salemen 101, get them on the lot. He probably has no idea personally what you drive since it's computer generated letter using previous sales database.

"Scam" might be harsh, but definitely one of those sales "tactics". I have received a letter for each car I have owned a few years down the line that it's in "high demand". They just want you to think you can get a "great deal" on the trade so they can sell you a new car.

They sent me the same letter. So when i called they offered me 13k for my car. I said no thanks and started laughing. They still go for about 16 to 17k with 80k miles on ebay. I only have 59k on mine. I would never trust the stealer. They are always looking for ways to screw you.

It is a scam.
Not necessarily your money, but definitely your time.

Scam may be a little harsh. How about deceptive sales practice? I worked in a dealership in F&I dept. for a while, I know how they operate.

Let's just say that I had very bad experience with it.
