Mazda Rev It Up How did everyone do? Anyone go this year?

Unless I missed the thread, I haven't seen any of our Mazda autox'ers talking about the RevItUp event. Did anyone go this year? How'd you do?

I went - did so-so. Had one of the better female scores of the weekend, but never did really string together a run I was happy with (damn but Mazda events are cone-happy). Still pretty pleased to have beaten a few of the locals here that usually trounce me though (something to be said for everyone having to use equal equipment).

Fun, generally better than last years (but then, I'm not so much a fan of the 6)... though I still wish you got 3 competition runs. Wonder what car they'll run next year?

I did all right, could've done really well, but swiped a cone.

Results page is not working right now, so...

3rd in points in the country... not too shabby. :) Got a LOT of talent heading to Laguna Seca this year to contend with. Just need to make sure my head is screwed on right.

I think that 4 or 5 of the people heading to the finals are from New England... which has got to say SOMETHING about our general driving habits. :D

I was ranked 2301 nationally at one time, I don't know where I am at now. I had a great time for it being my 1st time at anything like this. I only got the 1st run in though... :(

Awesome, good luck.

The winner from last year's Rev it up was from CT.
Where are you from and where have you been? :D If you're in New England you have to hang out with the NEPOC crew - we have a meet this weekend at F1 boston, it's right up your alley and you could teach us some pointers ;) :

I drive a Subaru (Silver Wagon).... I just stop by this forum every now and then. ;)

I'm usually auto-xing at Devens or NHIS with the NER SCCA or Boston-BMW club.

F1 boston is fun... got some guys that do some karting in the Subaru Club... maybe we can set up a Protege vs Subaru battle. ;) But genereally there's guys that kick my karting ass at F1... they're about 120-130 lbs to my 230.... kinda gives them the advantage going uphill on the City Circuit. ;)

Get to an auto-x. I'll gladly help instruct if available to do so (Ie: Not running)

We should definitively have a Subby v Mazda kart battle and meet at F1 late summer or fall.

Do you hang out at NASIOC or some subby forum? We should keep in touch, joint meets are great and we love subby folk here :D

we should get a bunch of protege's to go ice racing this winter :) show those subaru punks what's up (while just spinning tires on the ice while they move forward)

Yeah, I wanted to last year, never got around to it. Astral went a lot. It's just such a haul to get up there. The Boston-BMW club organizes one in NH

HAHAHahahaha

Ever hear of studded tires? :) It'll close the gap quite well.

I scored 75th in the country and 7th in St. Petersburg, Fl. I also ran Miami and tanked.

But...

I had my RX-7 on display with the Mazda Rotary Car Club of Florida all day Saturday in Miami, from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and got to watch the goings on all day long w/ the competition.

The winners didn't necessarily have the fastest times. I saw a guy lay a blistering time in the morning Saturday. I was 0.20 behind him and was amazed that he beat my time. The winner Mike King was over a second slower on the course than this guy was in the morning. Mike went in the late afternoon.

Now the pro:

He does about 6 runs back to back 1st thing in the morning the get a "feel" for the course. 1 out of those 6 or so runs will be the morning "pro time" or the 1000 score.

As the day goes on in BOTH cities I saw he progressively went slower throughout. Times would drop almost 2 seconds.

I spoke with Richard Brolliar after his run (he technically won Miami because King had already won St. Pete, Richard was also last years Miami winner, I came in 3rd that year ** see that sotry below) he had planned his showup time and run times based on what he learned the year before. The later in the day you run the better your score. Its all about waiting for the pro to go slower. He nailed it again this year.

**Miami 2003 -

I had run 1 hour before Richard and was in 1st place when Richard went the index had just been reset for 0.4 seconds slower. My raw time was actually faster that Richards but he won the city. That was when I realized it was all a mater of luck to win a city. Of course you have to be a fast driver from the get go but you also need to run at the right moment.

There was a rumor that this was the last year of the Mazda sponsored Rev-it-up. There is a possibility there might be a Toyota or Mitsu rev-it-up next year. This was from an insider in Miami.

I believe that. Mazda isn't coming out with any other non-limited edition autox-worthy cars next year and since it's all a marketing ploy they won't do it next year because the 6 and 3 are already released. I doubt they'd have a rev it up with the AWD 6s :D

As long as someone has a rev it up I'll be fine.

AMCI, the company that runs the MRIU has a 3 year contract with Mazda. Next year will be another year of Mazda.
