Has anyone try the spark plugs Pulstar Pulse Spark Plug? If yes, what yopu feed back on them. Because i am thinking about get them for my Mazda Protege5 car.

I think it's pretty unanimously agreed upon here that copper NGK V-powers are the only ones you need for this car.

nice little article about those plugs here (you have to scroll down a fair bit). You will notice than NONE of the major spark plug manufactures have bought them out, that alone should tell you something. Stick with the stock plugs, or the long reach ones also mentioned in the manual, or the V-powers, or at least one from a brand (champion, NGK, Bosch etc) that you have heard of.

yup.

Also the long reach ZFR5F-11 that I'm currently using, but for anyone interested, read this thread before using:

Yeah, I have those long reach in my car now, but I might be getting detonation. I know sometimes knocking sounds like marbles in a can, but nothing is coming from my engine. I do hear a weird rattling sounds coming from my exhaust when I try and accelerate under 2000 rpm and some people have said detonation sometimes sounds like rattling in your exhaust...so I'm going to get those plugs out of there and ut the Vpower ones in...

^yep - rattling is pre-ignition. Get new plugs. How old are the long reach plugs? If old - replace with same. New? Get stock size.

So pre-ignition doesn't have to make any noise in the engine, because all I hear is in the exhaust behind me...

THey are only a year old......I thought I would try them because everyone seems to really like the cahnges they produce. I have noticed it doesn't buck as much in first, but other than that, I haven't noticed much.

Some report great gas mileage. My mileage blows no matter what - I just hope it doesn';t go down more swtiching back to stock plugs:(

If you don't hear it in the engine - it is not knocking.

Sounds like a exhaust system problem.

It is rare that spark plug gimmicks are going to make any major differance over the stock ones. Unless you full on race your car, or have major boost, the NGK's will work great.(thumb)

i just pulled my NGK 's off (BKR5EGP) aside from the fact they're covered in gas they dont seem too shabby. the gap is over .05 though which i dont think is normal.

True. Any plug a whole lot more expensive is (ricer)

I'm going to install these later on this week. Since they are long-reach plugs, do I have to do anything differently when installing them?

What difference does it make using the long reach and the standard plug?

It moves the ignition point closer to the center of the fuel/air mixture inside the comb. chamber. Changes the burn pattern and how quickly combustion takes place. these motors like them! There are plenty of threads to learn from on this.(nana)

Yea, I remember reading a few posts about people installing them and using them, but noone ever stated why and on which engine they used them on. So I was a little unsure if I should use them.

Anyone tried Bosch "Platinum Plus 2" plugs in their '02 - '03 Protege 5 (2.0L)

Its been an interesting weekend. Saturday night I had a spark plug literally pop-out of the cylinder head while on the interstate. The threads on the head and plug are fine and it appears maybe the mechanic installing them didn't tighten them down during the last tune-up (100K miles). They were standard Bosch Platinums and I had 19,000 miles on the plugs. I have AAA so I shut down immediately and had the car towed home to my driveway.

I went to Autozone yesterday with the intent of installing the plugs myself (most mechanics in my area closed on Sunday) and purchased the Bosch Platinum Plus 2's, which is a 2 prong design. The car fired up fine and I gave it an oil change for good measure. Today, driving to work I notice what feels like a misfire at low RPMs when shifting through the gears (5 spd).

I am wondering if anyone has tried these plugs and had similar issues? Before I kick myself a few more times and go buy a set of standard NGKs or Bosch, I wanted to see if this is a common issue in P5s when using a two prong plug?

Thanks to all who comment.

It's a Japanese car. I wouldn't use anything other than NGK or Nippondenso(Denso) regular old copper, oem or long reach. None of that other trick garbage does anything except trick your wallet outta extra cash. Period.

so to be very clear: these long reach plugs are worth a try ina fully unmodified P5 engine?
