Mazda/Kenwood Factory Speaker Upgrade

I talked to my parts guy at the Mazda Dealership and he mentioned that I could order a set of Kenwood speakers to upgrade the door speakers in my new Protege 5 from Mazda. I think it's the same set that the MP3 comes standard with, but I could be wrong about that. Has anybody done this yet?

Stupid me, I forgot to ask the parts man for a price, but if it's not too bad I may go ahead and do this. I don't plan on doing a full stereo upgrade anytime in the near future, but if it's not too expensive and fairly simple, I might consider doing this to help with what I feel is a pretty flat sounding system.

in short, yeah the speakers you're talking about are the same as the MP3's. The 2002.5 has the tweets in the door frame pillars and I don't know how they're hooked in, i.e. crossover in the door or direct to the head unit, so you may want to inquire about that. otherwise go for it, you'll be happy with the increase in SQ.

Hondasarge,
You are going to pay some dollars buying the speakers from the dealer, just to upgrade what you have now on the P5. You can buy a set that will fit (5x7/6x8) in the front panels and are better. The Kenwoods you can find them at Crutchfield.com and they have 3 types of them, the ones we have on ours are the not so expensive ones. So you can choose to upgrade to better ones, plus they have more that you can check out. Also on the back doors of the P5's the speakers are 6 1/2 to 6 3/4. I thought they were the same as the front but they are not. Good luck on upgrading the speakers and do not pay a whole lot doing it.
