As my current fuel consumption sits at the moment that would mean that I will need to fill up another 20 times before any relief.....that's crap Mazda!
The mandatory consumer label on the windscreen when I bought my CX9 said fuel consumption combined Hwy/City is 13L/100klm.....not 21L/100klm for the first 4000mls/6400klms
Will be interesting to see what the comments will be from the service department when the CX9 goes in shortly.

Yeah, the dealer wont do anything. WHat can they do anyway? They could even say its because of your lead foot or the A/C on most of the time.
I just need the car to improve to the 08 EPA stats, cause thats what I thought the car was going to give me.
Thank you for that piece of info. I'll try turning up the volume. When i hook up my MP3 to the AUX port and press media, there is no info available on the Bose screen, it is just blank. However, I'll go check out the volume situation.
The Aux port is just an audio input, not a device controller. The only way to get integration is with the ipod integration unit.
It's interesting watching the mileage consumption display as i am driving. When I accelerate up an incline the car starts consuming at a whopping 76L/100km! and when I start free wheeling down the other end, it falls to 2.6l/100km. Still averaging 20+l/100km but I'm getting tired off daintily driving around inorder to conserve fuel as the CX9 is just waiting to be pushed. I want to get that "zoom zoom" feeling every other owner keeps talking about. (laugh)On the few occasions i have floored it, the smooth gear changes have been astounding and the car just picks up speed and keeps going. It doesn't have that slight pause and then launches off like a scalded cat, it really has tremendous power, eventhough 204kw doesn't look like much on paper for such a big vehicle. i guess you pay for it at the pump. Anyway, gonna take a highway drive at the end of the month so we'll see what sort of return i get then. Thanks for all the advice on the aux input, yep i got it to work by uh...turning up the volume, gee, never thought of that one! Does anyone know whether it would be possible to attach a tv tuner to the car and use the screen for output? Or if you could use the aux input to display movies etc on the screen from a video ipod for example. I'm actually using a Sony A808 so I'm not sure if it will work. Any thoughts on this?

The gear changes really arent that smooth and the acceleration off the mark is delayed and fairly poor most of the time .......but when she hits 3750rpm and beyond it then takes off like it's turbocharged with 20lb boost!!(wow)
I agree that First and Second feel really jerky when you mash down on the throttle, esp in manual mode with first I just chalk that up to the way Mazda gears their vehicles, because my CX-7 has the same problem, it jerks around in first gear, in manual mode, the engine does move around quite a lot though.. that's another story.
But the upshifts are smooth and quick, I don't notice any undue jerkyness in our rental.

Yes, there must be something wrong with your cx-9,
My cx-9 and his tranny performs admirably smooth and efficient. I have power thru all the rpm range. Not even need to go past 4k rpms when having fun. (between 60 and 90 mph). This car has way too much to give.
I'm still on my first tank full, I have travelled 275km so far, trip computer says distance remaining is 255km, and I still have exactly half a tank on the gauge.
That would be 530km from my first tank at a rate of 14.3L/100k, and it can only get better,(I hope). Driving conditions have been about 50/50city/highway, and NOT nursed.

I just hit the big 1000 Km today. A full tank gets me 582 k's that's on BP Ultiment. Also runing Mobil 1 10W-30 Full Synthetic oil.

Yet another Aussie on board, picked up my Stormy blue luxury a week ago.
First 2 days around town I was reading 20L/100k (a lot of idling) then went up the highway for a run and it dropped to 12.5L/100 after about 80km of driving.

I've chalked up 2K Km on my Stormy Blue ... and I do get 20 ~ 23L/100km in the city (traffic heavy Manila) ... on pure highway driving, I get 15L/100km.
hope this improves a liitle bit more but exhiliration comes with a price (drive2)
I've been driving mine for almost 2 weeks now. The driving I have done is mainly to and from work which includes a 2 minute trip down a freeway and then about 30km of city/suburban driving each way.
My average to date is 13.8l/100km. For the last few days it has varied from 13.7 to 13.9. Note that I never use the air-conditioning. Using it would probably add 10-15% to that figure.

18.4l/100km is my best so far.
Have you reset the computer at all? Maybe they ran the engine for an hour or two in pre-delivery and that is skewing your data. I'd reset it now and see how it goes over the next week or two.
Mine is in for the 1000km service today. I hope they don't make any engine adjustments that make the fuel consumption worse. At 13.8 average I'm happy. That is only slightly more than my SS Commodore used but that was a 6 speed manual so just moving to auto would account for about 10% increase.
The only things I can think of for you is perhaps you like zooming away from the traffic lights. Hard acceleration will always use LOTS of fuel. Or maybe you are a brickie and you have 1000 bricks in the back????

I approached Mazda and they dont believe it is an issue until I have at least driven 10000klms.....there not paying my fuel bill.
My calculations at an average petrol cost of $1.27per/litre my fuel bill will be around the $2600 give or take $100 by the time I reach 10000klm.....if fuel economy doesnt improve that is.....that sucks!
