Mazda Axela Exhause Smell

Good Day all,

Well its plain and simple, im planning on buying a 2006 Mazda Axela, that car seems pretty nice, love the color (metallic blue) but when i was testing it, a really BAD smell came inside of the cabin... i kept driving thinking maybe i was the area where i was driving thru but once i took a highway i noticed that the smell was still with me; when i finished the test drive i still feel the SMELL even worse so i was thinking what i could be, but no clue, the only i notice it came out of the exhaust because i bend over to smell it and there we go... fart smell come from there, have any of you guys ever cross this problem ? I really like the car, but im not going to roll in a 4 door fart bomb :P

PLEASE HELP

The smell is most likely sulfur and it means one or mroe of the catalytic converters are bad.

So would that mean I have to replace it or could that be cleaned ?
Could I go straight pipe on these cars ?
Does it have some type of sensor there ?

I would verify, but yes, if the cat is bad it will need to be replaced or continue to stink. I'm not as knowledgeable on the 3's but I'm sure there is a straight pipe out there somewhere. I also do not know the layout of the converters on the 3 so it may/may not have an oxygen sensor behind it. If there is a sensor you are going to get a check engine light unless you "trick" it somehow. Beyond this, I'm hoping 3 owner will chime in...

By law, you will need to replace it. Especially if you live in a state that requires an inspection and goes through emission testing. Other than that, I suppose you could go with a straight pipe. But, it will be much louder and not sure you want to put up with loud noises.

Thx but i dont even live in the states i actually live in the carribean (Dominican Republic) im buying a real JDM Mazda Axela 2006 not an USA Mazda 3 but its basickly the same car... and about the exhuast here there are NO rule for exhasue, emissino, ride height... anything of this kind... xD love my country; i used to have a Honda Civic with b16a, no exhaust straight pipe, never had problems with the police (cabpatch) any was thinking of just eliminating the CAT; but would need to find out if there is a sensor... dont want any check lights of anything of this kind.
