Well you would be somewhat limited with an automatic because it probably won't last long if you make the engine more powerful.

dude.. if you can't drive stick, learn.

I did'nt know how to drive it when I ordered my 6. I learned two weeks before I picked it up. You knoooooow you wanna (drive)

I DRIVE STICK RIGHT NOW, I HAVE A TURBO 2.0 VW JETTA, AND A MAZDA THREE BUT RELIZED THAT THE 3 ISNT BIG ENOUGH AND WELL THE JETTA NEEDS TO GO BEFORE IT BREAKS AGAIN.. ITS JUST THAT WELL UMM.... MY MOTHER AND GIRLFREIND WANT TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR AND WELL THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE M/T SOO IM KINDA SCREWED, WHY DO WOMEN ALWAYS WIN,,,... But yea anyways what performence upgrades are out there for the 6i to help get the power to the ground, i wanna get ahold of the turbo from the speed version and put it in mine...

(wow)
I'm sensing a lot of pent up resentment in that post!!!!

Anywho, once crossbow comes around he'll tell you about upgrades.. So far I know there are several good intakes (CP-E for one, Injen to a leser extent), magnaflow has an exhaust that sounds pretty good, and I believe there is a short shifter kit floating around there somewhere. I know the short shifter is very easy to install.

I'm sure there are several I missed.

Anywho, good luck with the new 6. (As a side note, I wanted my girlfriend to get a MTX but she wouldn't.. believe me, I sympathize with ya man.)

Isn't this the best reason to have a manual? I mean, if they can't drive it, then don't have to worry about them driving it. (gtfo) Whose car is it going to be anyways an who is making the payments? If your the one doing this, do as you want, get what you want. However, if they are forking over $$$, ok, now you might be screwed...(boom08)

MTX is lighter, and has another 15 whp over the ATX.

A 6i MTX in the hands of a good driver is nearly as fast as a 6s ATX in the straights. (140 whp and 3045 lbs vs 155 whp and 3300 lbs).

The biggest limitation to the 6i ATX is its 4 gears. They are a rather huge limitation, and anyone whose driven both the 5 speeds and the 4 speed ATX will tell you thus.

Thus the car has enough pep to move, but is limited by available gearing. If you want "maximum" performance out of a 6i ATX, you'll want to run the smallest wheels possible, with lower profile tires to reduce your vehicles gearing to the point where its actually more aggressive.

Technically neither the 6i atx nor the 6i mtx are very strong transmissions, and both will require "care" if you ever plan on forced induction.

Thanks cross, and no there was no pent up tention just didn't relize that caps was on and said ohh well im not retyping it im lazy what can i say.. (laugh) hmm ill have to see if i can get haold of a 6i mtx and see the differnce ill take a beating to have a car that can stay with a V6 stock.

A 6i MTX will only hang with a 6s ATX, not the MTX. The 6i MTX's spec's are very close in performance to the 6s ATX, except the all important torque. From a roll their about equal, from a stop the 6i can get a jump on one, due to the fact you can set the rpm your launching at, while the 6s ATX will almost explode if you start doing power braking.

Don't expect to have a prayer against a 6s MTX in a straight line though, they have about a 20-30 whp advantage over a 6s ATX, and weigh almost 100 lbs less. In the twisty's though, the 6i MTX is extremely tossable, and definitely the most manuverable out of all the 6 lineup (including the MPS). Weight is everything in a corner, and the 6i MTX weighs a scant 3045 lbs, and even less if you go with a completely base model. With lightweight rims and some tweaking, you can get it down to around 2900 lbs. If you strip it completely, 2600 is within reach :).

The 6i MTX is the racing platform for all the 6's...be it the dragracing, or the scca pro world challenge racers. Not the 6s, nor the MPS 6.

Just FYI, you can find the short shifter for the 6 here: http://www.twmperformance.com/shortshifters/mazdashortshifters/mazda6shortshifters.htm

was that 6i or 6s MTX that tore 3rd gear to S$!t?

i know TriPoint went through a few trannies last season due to 3rd gear issues. Also depending on the type of racing your looking for, Lentech got a core in for me a while back to begin work on the 6i ATX. I have their valvebodies in, and they can do anything you want to make it handle whatever you want. But just like getting the power out of the engine it cost a pretty penny to get it down to the ground. They can even do an LSD and/or a transbrake if your really into taking it to the strip.

I myself am thinling of getting a 6i for lower insurance cost and to slap on a turbo. I have a friend that wants to take over my lease because I walked out the door with a sick deal. So I wont be loosing a penny on getting a new car.
