Mazda 626 Intake Mani Info thread

oh i am going to do this mod. i just dunno when..what all needs to be changed besides the EGR pipe? and KEn, with your manifold, the EGR pipe;will that bolt right up to the protege?

Is there any vacuum rerouting that should be done with this manifold?

yes but is very self explanatory and not challenging at all to do

the protege EGR pipe will not work. the one i supply bolts right up.

cool i knew about the protege one. how much is yours, if we buy the mani from you?

woo hoo....
got the intake installed
(sorry no pics yet)
i havent dyno'd but it is smoother all the way to fuel cut
and the vacuum lines were very self expanitory

...thanks Ken

$299 without EGR, $354 with EGR

ok i'm posting this but i'm not fully convinced on the results

i baselined at 100whp flat on a dynojet at the local shop about a year ago
i just did the intake manifold and an AEM short ram (fidanza flywheel+exedy clutch and full AWR mounts)

had it dyno'd about 30min ago at the same place and it said 103whp
i'm not depressed just a bit confused
can anyone explain this...hope i'm not 'jacking the thread
but i only got 3 horse from 4500 to 5500
i mean thats $160/horse...i am totaly NOT blaming Ken on this he made NO promises

like i said what am i missing here or is this about it for N/A

post the graphs and it'll explain easier

but anyway, the 626 s*** is designed more for low end power than the protege one, to put it in simplest terms

Lots of possible reasons:
1) dyno calibration
2) temperature
3) inappropriate correction factors
4) different ECU learning
5) different tightness on straps
7) tire pressures
8) plenty of other different issues that can cause the differences.... back to back is the only "true" way to know.

later,

Mmm, odd. My car dynoed at 112 with just the clutch/flywheel/intake/axle-back, after dynoing 102 baseline... Jeez, years ago, now.

However, I'm not terribly surprised, as the runners on that particular manifold are smaller, but the overall volume is a tiny bit little higher than the manifold with VICS butterflies closed. Very well suited to low RPM velocity, but not so well with high RPM functionality. It probably feels quite a bit smoother, though, I would imagine.

oh yeah it feels alot smoother
and it seems to pull straight up to redline
no flat spots like before...like i said i'll try to post the charts

the run was very eratic/wavy from 3000 to 4600
making 5hp to 10hp dips every 300rpm
the revlimiter came on about 400rpm sooner as well

i forgot to say the cel code was for an o2 sensor
so maybe it was that or the tech running the dyno
or maybe 3 horse is all ya get

by the way 3000 miles on the "flexi-gas pipe-egr"
no problems
i'll switch to the hard pipe next time i take the motor out

so updates on the N/A apps? thinking of doing this along with a UDP rather than cosmetics stuff.
(poke)

it works just fine on N/A
throttle responese and smoother revs/torque curve
i've had it for almost 6k miles now no problems
just get the egr pipe
and it's a good idea to replace the egr valve too

great little part i'ld say

So if I buy this IM and put it on my P5, am I gonna get a CEL because it has no VICS/VTCS thing?
I ordered an IM spacer from NSN and when I put it on I want to do the motor mounts too.
While I have the IM off I wanted to port & pollish it, or replace with the 626 IM.
I don't know what to do. Any input/suggestions would be great...
I'm only smart with stereo stuff, not so much with the engine/tuning part.
(peep)

you won't get a cel as long as conect the solenoids...

great, but i'm still wondering if i'm better off doing a port/pollish on my IM or getting the 626 IM??? I dont plan on going turbo

i would say, start with Ken's manifold and P'nP that one later on down the road
if you feel it needs to be as far as castings go, it looked pretty open to me but a pollish wouldn't hurt either
...the factory one is just too gimicky IMOP
