Mazda 6 - 2nd Trans Blown

Hello

Have a 2005 M6 with 45k, 6sp AT. Purcahsed used in 2006 with about 10k mi. Had blown transmission back about 2 years ago, Galpin Mazda in LA replaced at that time. (I bought car in Boise though)

Yesterday I noticed some type of overheat smell. A few hours later I get the slamming feeling when hitting 22 mph accelerating and then 20 decelerating. And the car won't go into reverse any longer.

Assuming transmission is almost toast again. Can I force dealer to install a cooling fan for transmission, or is that really a known issue? I wonder if I have any recourse as my confidence is completely shaken at this point.

well jeff,
from what i understand you bought the car with the blown tranny and replaced it. and it ran fine for 35k miles. what was the cause for the first transmision to go. there could be a tsb out for it if this is a recurring problem.

as far as your cooling fan idea. the dealership would have to first deem that the appropriate solution for the problem. though i'm not sure if thats a solution for a bucking transmission.
i'd first try to solve the "overheat smell" problem first, as its possible its not even related to the tranny problem you have.
prop the hood, put er on jacks and look around for a leak. check all fluid levels. etc. etc.

i'd assume this forum is mostly full of manual drivers so it maybe hard to find someone who knows something about autos.
 
That's weird because the Aisin AW6A-EL is supposed to be more bullet-proof that the JATCO JA5A-EL transmission in the '03-'04.

The Aisin also takes a different transmission fluid. Using the wrong fluid can potentially cause failure.

If the problem is indeed associated with temperature problems, I don't know where you'd put the fan. A more viable option would be installing an inline oil cooler for the transmission fluid.

check the fluid. make sure its the correct stuff. if not, you can hold the last dealership that installed the trans liable. ;)
