Mazda 6 2009 18x7,5 wheels on a Mazda 5?

Hi everybody!

I posted this question in another thread but had no luck there yet so I post a new thread. I have a set of 18x7,5 inch wheel for a 2009 Mazda 6 that I can buy cheap with new Dunlop tires. I believe the offset is 60 mm on this wheel. On MS5 stock 17x6,5 inch it is 52,5 mm offset. How much room will I have on the suspension side with the larger wheel? Is it possible to fit the wheel without the rim/wheel will touch the suspension or wheelhouse (both front and rear). I can't find any picture of the wheel suspension/wheelhouse on a Mazda 5 so I'm hoping someone here can help me with that. Se below for the actual wheel and a calculation I made for my stock wheel and the new one.

I would be so happy if it could fit my Mazda 5. It's a so good looking rim...

That has crossed my mind but then I'd have to change the bolts and that is more job than I want.

Do a test fit and see if the wheels interfere with the suspension. You can use 3mm spacers with stock bolts and lugnuts just fine, anything more will require longer bolts.

The problem is that the wheels are about 300 km away. :-( Im planning on buying the wheels this weekend so before I go on a road trip I want to know if it's possible at all to fit the wheels. It's a long trip to go if they don't fit.

I'm thinking of measure my stock 17" wheel clearence to the strut. Then perhaps I will get a hint if the wider rim will fit. Perhaps a 3 mm spacer should be enough. Thanks!

More help and tips needed!

how much room is there from your current wheel to the suspension? If there is more than 21mm you should be ok, but make sure you have at least 5mm to play with. See if there is a little more than an inch of clearance and you should be good to go

I will measure the distance tomorrow. Long day at work today! Is there anything else the wheel/tire can rub against on the inside besides the suspension? I'm not worried about the outside of the wheel because it will only be about 4-5 mm closer to the fender compared to now and that shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you!

naaa..the only thing you really ever have to worry about rubbing is your fender, strut, or calipers. But since your going with a LARGER wheel, the caliper issue is gone.

I've never gone in to measure myself, hopefully you do have at least 25mm between the wheel and suspension.

Just an FYI though, I think some of the 5s here have RX-8 rims on which are 18x8 @ 50mm offset, it extends 17mm inward and 21mm outward. So 21mm is not much more, the 3mm spacer should do it.

This is good news to me! I thougth the RX-8 wheels where 7,5 inch wide. Then I should do just fine with a 3mm spacer without changing the bolts i guess. I also suspect that the Mazda 6 rim only has 55 mm offset. I'm waiting for confirmation about that just now! Looks that i'm getting closer and closer to a set of 18 inch wheels to my Mazda 5! :-)

The offset seems to be 60 mm. I'll buy two sets of spacers, 3 and 5 mm to try. If the bolts are long enough to fit the 5 mm then I'll go for that size.

Spacers and wheel centering?

It seems like I have to use spacers to fit the MS6 18" wheel. How will the centering of the wheel be? Is there enough edge left on the hub to still hold the rim in place and centered? How deep is the "centering edge" on the hub? I guess it's not a good idea to let the wheel only be held and centered by the bolts? I don't want any vibrations.

Pleeease help me... (sorry for all these questions. I will post a lot of pictures of my car/wheels when/if it will fit, I promise. I'll even give a full report on this issue with the wheels. (burnout))

Yes i'm running 8mm on stock "bolts", and i'm also running a pretty agressive set-up for a 5.

18"x8.5"
offset 48
+ 8mm spacers
(EDIT) with a 2 + inches drop :D:D:D
This is what it's look like.

***Believe me, there's no problem running a set of Mazda 6 OEM rims on a 5 lol.***

It looks awsome! Do you have hub centering spacers? Vibrations? Sorry for all questions...

VenomDesign, are you running the spacer to clear the calipers or is it for looks? It looks pretty dope, I'm hoping to get something a bit more aggressive and more tire stretch once I settle on a new wheel setup.

Was Kinda thinkin of the 521's in 18x8.5 +40. XXR is a sponsor on my team so they're pretty cheap

For those of you who can stand a picture of a VERY dirty car (just drove almost 600 km to get the new wheels) I can tell you that the wheels fitted bolt on! No spacers needed. It's tight (about 4-5 mm) to the strut but I think it should work fine. The only thing I'm worried about is tire rubbing at the front/inside of the tire when it's turned all the way to one side. When turning fully left the inside of the right tire is very close to the front/inside of the wheelhouse if you understand what I mean. The rim has 60 offset so the wheel gets rather deep in the wheelhouse. It's winter here now so I cant test drive until next year. Do I have to worry about anything more now or should I just long for springtime to put my new wheels on a clean polished car?

The positive thing is that the wheel don't extend more than 5 mm on the outside compared to stock 17" wheels. Looks really good (it's hard to see at the picture).

Well here is the picture (on a dirty car...):

Found a set of beautiful CX7 rims that I couldn't resist. Bought them and moved the tires from the Mazda 6 rims to the CX7 rims. The MS6 wheels are nice but the CX7 wheels looks better I think.
