Map Update question 🤷🏼‍♂️

2024 CX5 Akera
Hi folks. I am in my 70’s. It’s my only excuse for appearing dumb !! Have a new 2024 red CX5 Akera.
First MAP update is now available from Mazda. I do not have a computer with a large enough slot for
the SIM card. I generally make do with a standard iPad 9 Gen. No card slot. Can anyone assist me with a type
of card reader that will take the rather large SIM card and will connect to the iPad (if exists), so that I can
download the Update? 🙏 Thank you

Are they using SIM cards now? I’ve got an older vehicle and the maps are on an SD card. You can pick a USB to SD card adapter. It acts like a USB memory stick then. I’ve always used a PC to do updates, don’t know if the map update software is iPad compatible.

Hi Gozo. Many thanks. I think I should have said SD card.
It is considerably larger than the Nav card in a neighbours
2024 CX30. I have been told yes it can be done with the
correct reader that takes large cards and has a cable that
mates to the iPad power charge inlet.
But he couldn’t tell me what to buy!! Not positive he is
correct. So hoping to be put on the right track.

My advice is to pay a visit to your local electronics store ( here in US we have Best-Buy) and ask a young lad to help you buy what you need. You need an SD card reader. Something similar to the one in the picture below.

Many thanks. Live on the small island state of Tasmania, floating at the bottom of Aust. For us the next stop is Antarctica. There are some stores I can visit at a place nearby named Devonport so I will take up your kind advice.

How about the dealership you purchased the car from ... Maybe they could update your nav card for you for a small free or a pizza, beer, hotdog etc.

Mazda Toolbox (latest infotainment version) is only working on devices with Windows and macOS.
See for OS versions: Mazda Update Toolbox
Hi and thank you. You are right. Mazda have frozen people out of map updates if they do not have a late version Apple MacOS or a computer or tablet with Windows 10 or 11. So iPad and iPhone (with card reader) are no good nor an Android tablet unless you have Windows. My Windows PC needs a new motherboard. I spent AUD $55K on a new top of the line CX5 with so-called 3 yrs of “free” map updates. So I will have to buy a Mac notebook or new Windows PC. I will be taking the advice of HyFlyer in Ohio and going to the dealership. I will be extremely unhappy if they cannot or will not assist. In fact they can do all the updates‼️

Many thanks HyFlyer. I will be doing what you suggest. But they can do it for zilch. I will be surprised if they are not fully aware. Why Mazda in Japan decided to make the toolbox app. only compatible with MacOS and Windows 10/11 is beyond me. Tomorrow is Monday (Down Under) and I will be waving the card like a flag when I walk into the showroom‼️ Thanks once again 👍
